Did you like Shutter Island? Would you enjoy watching a prequel in episodic increments? Deadline is reporting that HBO and Paramount are joining forces to bring Scorsese’s 2010 thriller to the small screen in a series that focuses on the history of the hospital and treatments for the mentally ill in the 1950s. I know, I know: but will it have a laugh track?

Scorsese is rumored to direct the series, which will be set before the events of the DiCaprio-starring horror flick and tentatively titled Ashcliffe. But if American Horror Story meets Mad Men meets Gangs of New York isn’t appealing to you, the director will have interesting company in adapting his film to the small screen. Stephen Spielberg is rumored to be resurrecting Minority Report for TV with the assistance of Godzilla writer Max Borenstein, while the 1997 thriller Devil’s Advocate is reportedly coming to NBC as a series with Bag of Bones‘s Matt Venne on script duty.

How do you guys feel about these developments? Do you think the films’ premises will suit a more episodic format? Did you want to see these worlds explored more? And who should replace Pacino? Let the rumors begin.
