Congratulations, people who really wanted to see Edgar Wright direct an insect movie! Ant-Man may have fallen through, but things are looking pretty good for Grasshopper Jungle, which Edgar Wright just became attached to direct for Sony Pictures.
The movie is based on a YA novel of the same name by Andrew Smith; Deadline describes it as “Stand By Me meets Attack The Block.” Reads the book’s official description:
In the small town of Ealing, Iowa, Austin and his best friend, Robby, have accidentally unleashed an unstoppable army. An army of horny, hungry, six-foot-tall praying mantises that only want to do two things.
This is the truth. This is history.
It’s the end of the world. And nobody knows anything about it.

Scott Rosenberg (Con Air, High Fidelity, the US Life on Mars) is adapting the script. According to Entertainment Weekly, Grasshopper Jungle will be Wright’s next film after Baby Driver, which we don’t know a heck of a lot about other than how it’s supposed to be “a collision of crime, action, music and sound.”
I’m sorry, I’m still caught on “testicle-dissolving genetically modified corn.”
