The American Museum Of Natural History Will Host Champagne Sleepovers for Geeky Grown Ups

Team Mary Sue field trip, anyone?

Starting August 1st, nature nerds over 21 will have the opportunity to Basil E. Frankweiler it up at a sleepover in New York’s Natural History Museum. I say Basil E. Frankweiler, but then again, I don’t remember that book having as much champagne. Or spiders. This night will have both.

The evening will begin with a champagne and jazz reception, after which visitors will have the chance to wander deserted exhibits at their leisure. Special attractions will include the “Power of Poison” exhibition hosted by Curator Mark Siddall, and a midnight screening of the “Dark Universe” space show narrated by Neil deGrasse Tyson. If you so choose, you can also view the museum’s twenty species of arachnids at the “Spider Alive!” exhibit (no thank you).

Once the night is winding down, guests will be invited to sleep it off under the museum’s infamous 94-long blue whale. Tragically, all of this awesomeness comes with a price tag of $375, but surely it will be possible to write that off? I think “fossil finding by flashlight” should be a relevant skill in most professions.

Space in the sleepover is capped at 150 people (you wouldn’t want that pillow fight to get too big) and the Museum anticipates a high demand, so if you’re interested, make sure to start registration soon.
