Bethesda’s Facebook Tease Yesterday Was For Dishonored, Which Now Has a Trailer [Video]

Yesterday, Bethesda posted a single screenshot of a grizzled man to their Facebook account, with the simple caption of “tomorrow.” Well, yesterday’s tomorrow is now, for it is today, and Bethesda released a trailer to go along with that screenshot, which is for the steampunk-em-up, Dishonored. The trailer is over four minutes long and contains no gameplay, but it is certainly worth a watch.

The trailer opens with the aforementioned grizzled man in a jail cell, with who seems to be some sort of villain divulging a bit of information regarding our grizzled man’s wrongful imprisonment. The probable villain then magics up the grizzled man’s hand, and off goes the plot.

Though at first the game looks to be of another ho-hum magical medieval setting, we’re quickly introduced to robotic legs and what seems to be old, horseless carriages that run along a railroad. We then learn that the robotic legs didn’t belong to some sort of robot, but are more like a cross between robotic stilts and a mech, with the fella wearing the contraption shooting electric fire arrows from a bow, setting civilians on fire. Don’t worry, though, as a civilian who is now covered in flames runs into an electric grid and explodes in a shower of body parts. Yes, this game sounds ridiculous in summary.

The trailer then takes a first-person perspective, as who seems to be the main character dons some kind of steampunk mask, then performs a bunch of parkour over some rooftops and murders a bunch of people using magical door-shattering and time-stopping powers. From Bethesda’s description posted with the trailer on YouTube:

“Dishonored casts you as a supernatural assassin driven by revenge. You are the once-trusted bodyguard of the beloved Empress. Framed for her murder, you become an infamous assassin, known only by the disturbing mask that has become your calling card. In a time of uncertainty, when the city is being besieged by plague and ruled by an oppressive government armed with strange technologies, dark forces conspire to bestow upon you abilities beyond those of any common man.

In Dishonored, creatively eliminate your targets with the flexible combat system as you combine the numerous supernatural abilities, weapons and unusual gadgets at your disposal. Pursue your enemies under the cover of darkness or ruthlessly attack them head on with weapons drawn. The outcome of each mission plays out based on the choices you make.”

So, it would seem we have some sort of mission-based, Assassin’s CreedBioShock mashup. Bethesda could certainly do worse. Hilariously, the tagline Bethesda seems to be running with for Dishonored is “Revenge solves everything.”
