How dare you, Fox. How. Dare. You. I have never in my life yelled at a studio like this!
OK. You’ve calmed down? I’ve calmed down. Let’s talk about this Mrs. Doubtfire sequel and which castmember has spoken out against it with a resounding “Oh hell no.”
According to Deadline, Fox 2000 is developing a sequel to the 1993 comedy crossdressing classic with Elf writer David Berenbaum on scripting duties. Apparently his version of the story is an “original take,” which means… Robin Williams has to sneaky crossdress for a different reason this time? Mrs. Doubtfire gets sucked into a board game? There are dinosaurs? I’ll watch this sequel if there are dinosaurs, won’t even lie. Robin Williams is expected to return, though no deal has yet been signed, and original director Chris Columbus is “creatively shepherding” the project as a producer.
One person probably not returning, unless Fox gets to her with their brainwashing machine, is Mara Wilson, who played adorable youngest daughter Natalie and went on to voice The Faceless Old Woman Who Lives In Your Home in Welcome to Night Vale. She’s a cool lady. After the sequel was announced, the actress took to Twitter to take Fox to task:
Sequels generally suck unless they were planned as part of a trilogy or series. I think Doubtfire ended where it needed to end.
