We just got some hard information about one of the most asked-for sequels in the history of intellectual property owned by Disney. Yes, I’m talking about The Incredibles.

Also we got some info on Star Wars.

Disney CEO Bob Iger dropped the knowledge this afternoon in Portland meeting of Disney shareholders. The most surprising bit of news is that Pixar is moving ahead with an unlooked for sequel to their nearly ten year old hit The Incredibles. Incredibles creator Brad Bird has always been open about how he wouldn’t want to do a sequel to his film unless he had a good enough idea for it, and it seems like that good idea has arrived.

Bird is currently working on Tomorrowland, but will begin his script for The Incredibles 2, or whatever it winds up being called, soon. Iger also revealed that The Incredibles itself (along with Ratatouille) will be getting the 3D theatrical rerelease treatment, so we can look forward to Dash’s dizzying hovercraft chase in an even more dizzying format.

Among Iger’s announcements also came word of concrete developments in their new Star Wars trilogy. Principal photography on the movie will begin this May in Pinewood Studios, the traditional production home of Star Wars movies. The film is still on track to premiere on December 18th, 2015. And according to Star Wars.com:

It has also been confirmed that Star Wars: Episode VII is set about 30 years after the events of Star Wars: Episode VI Return of the Jedi, and will star a trio of new young leads along with some very familiar faces.

That leaves the new movie occurring roughly (perhaps quite roughly) as long after the events of Return of the Jedi as it has been since the movie premiered in real life, a good choice if it is going to, indeed, feature some “very familiar faces.”
