Tiny Child Stages Lone Counter-Protest for Marriage Equality, Becomes Our Hero

Today in Love Wins.

It’s only a 20-second clip, but I can’t think of anything more emblematic of the two sides of the marriage equality fight than a small child holding out a symbol of unrestricted love unyieldingly while someone yells in her face about how much better their own version of “love” is.

In the video, the street preacher doesn’t say anything directly related to the SCOTUS marriage equality ruling, but according to the girl’s father in the YouTube description, “This was not a march, or a political event. The preacher was accosting festival goers, including other families with children. His rhetoric, before being confronted by a small girl, was graphic, and bigoted. He was escorted out by police a short time later.”

The events unfolded the day after the SCOTUS ruling in favor of nationwide marriage equality at the Comfest arts festival in Ohio, where I’m sure she wasn’t the only one unhappy with the preacher’s methods—hence the parade of high fives.
