Hollywood, please don’t let this be a Jem and the Hologramslevel disappointment. I know it’s technically impossible for you to retroactively ruin my childhood, and I’m fairly convinced that this new adaptation won’t erase all copies of the 1996 The Craft from existence, but if either of those events come to pass and you do in fact manage to ruin teen witches for all eternity, I owe some baby-men an apology.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Sony is re-making the 1996 classic The Craft with newcomer Leigh Janiak set to write and direct. In addition to the lady-led horror film Honeymoon, Janiak has also helmed an episode of MTV’s upcoming Scream series; according to THR, Janiak got the Craft job after she “impressed execs with her take on a female empowerment tale.”

Although it’s hard to imagine Craft 2.0 would ever live up to the expectations of fans who grew up with the original, I’m honestly impressed by Sony’s recent investment in female-led movies (if not necessarily by the studio’s creativity), and the decision to bring on an up-and-coming female horror director is especially commendable considering the gendered hiring practices seen in Hollywood overall.

Just by the power of Manon, please let this Toast article inform the remake. That’s all I need in this world.
