Steven Spielberg to Descend on Comic Con to Promote Tintin

Firsts

So as you’re wandering around San Diego Comic-Con this year, nose bent over a map as you stumble through the crowds and try not to get body-checked by a storm trooper, beware. One of those people you stumble into may just be Steven Spielberg, and then you’ll have to feel guilty for bruising the guy who brought you Hook.

Spielbrg will be making his first-ever appearance at the con this year to promote The Adventures of Tintin, as the film is less likely than his last film to appear at Comic-Con (Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull) to draw a big box office.

In a way, it’s surprising that the guy behind Jaws, Close Encounters, Indiana Jones, E.T., Back to the Future, Jurassic Park, ET CETERA ET CETERA has never made an (official, I guess he could have gone in disguise/cosplay) appearance at SDCC. On the other hand, it is probably a mark of how Spielberg’s career is already a healthy, adult organism, and putting “Spielberg” on a movie almost has the same cachet as “at Comic Con.”

When your film needs a little help, you bring in the big guns. And in the movie business that doesn’t get much bigger than Le Spielberg and Le Comic Con. If you want to see him, you might want to get in line now.
