Street Fighter V Conspiracy Theories: Data-Mining the Unannounced Characters

Recommended Videos

Street Fighter fans have been busy all weekend sinking our teeth into the multiplayer beta, but now that it’s over, let’s reconvene to analyze the sweet, sweet data buried deep in the PC build of SFV. This enterprising Twitter user has posted links to the data they’ve collected, but there’s a lot of disagreement already among fans about what each of these file titles could mean. For example, here’s one user’s attempt to decode some mesh titles that may or may not refer to unrevealed characters, like Guile and Juri:

Sure, the letters “IBK” could refer to “Ibuki”—a character who I’d love to see appear in Street Fighter V, sooner or later. But that combination of letters could mean anything. Of course, that hasn’t stopped conspiracy theorists on Reddit and NeoGAF from waxing philosophical about who’s who among these clumps of letters. It seems a little like amateur tea leaf readings—if you want to see your fav’s name buried in the data mines, you’ll see it there, whether or not anyone else does.

Who do you most hope will appear from the mists and become corporeal on the Street Fighter roster?
