TV’s Robin, Burt Ward, Comments on Current Robin Events

It’s a terrible choice to kill off Robin. Why bite the hand that feeds you? … Robin should only die in people’s imaginations! Or in a state of primal ecstasy! — Burt Ward.

Well, I can certainly understand Ward’s distress over the fate of a fictional character that he’s close to, even more when he’s responsible for embodying one of the most iconic versions of that character. Although it’s worth noting that this isn’t the first time this has happened, nor is the current Robin even the same character as the one he played in the television show -

    I’m still expecting it to be some fakeout or at least not what it seems. The kid’s the friggin grandson of Ra’s al Ghul, who has come back from the dead how many times now?
    That and the last time a comic company hyped up a death like this, it was the Human Torch. And then despite all that press coverage it turned out to be a fake out.

    This is why Adam West and Burt Ward will always be the BEST Batman and Robin. Maybe not the ones I most want to watch on the big screen. But the BEST.

    A lot of people liked him though.
    The whole Death of the Family thing was odd to me

    Damian Wayne was the Lori Grimes of Batman. I don’t care how they died, their respective franchises are simply much improved by their death.

    Now, if someone can just guarantee that Batman isn’t going to start seeing his ghostly son in a white Robin costume from now on, I’d appreciate it.

    Terrible move by DC. Damien’s version of Robin was very popular. Rumor the PC police are bringing a new female Robin to the comics. How stupid. Talk about driving the readers away. No thanks DC, you screwed up big time.

    Yes he does. He mentioned Damian by name tonight at a screening of The ’66 Batman movie here in Seattle at the Cinerama (he and Adam West are here for Emerald City Comicon this weekend).

    Grant Morrison said it on the Kevin Smith podcast, Fatman on Batman, that Damien was supposed to die 4 issues into his run but because of the fans he stuck around. His growth into a fan favourate and the longevity he did have should be celebrated not whined about like it is now.
    So called “DC Comic book fans” need to stop all the constant bitching and moaning about everything and grow up a little.
    Also these Burt Ward comments are old and have to do with the death of Jason Todd NOT Damien

    See this is what I believe too. I think this is either a Batman ploy to defeat Talia or one of Robin’s and he’s taking a play out the Bat/al Ghul-playbook in order to defeat his mother. Either way we’ll find out at the end of issue 12 of Batman Inc.

    My big thing is, if Damien is the only Robin ever, why replace him at all? It makes since with everyone else. But there has not been anyone before him and he’s Bruce’s son. And the supposed new Robin ( I forget her name) was there when Damien dead. It’s going to be weird.
