We Shouldn’t Be So Excited by This Commercial Featuring a Real Life Comic Book Loving Lady, but We Are

A comic book lady is a person in your neighborhood, in your neighborhood, in your neighborhoooood...

The SPIRE Federal Credit Union serves residents of Minnesota and Wisconsin, so that would explain why us New Yorkers have never heard of it before. But it’s already found its way into our hearts, by choosing a lady who likes comic books for one of those “look how homey and personal and not a capitalist edifice we are” commercials. Comic book loving ladies: they’re just like us!

Susana Polo thought she'd get her Creative Writing degree from Oberlin, work a crap job, and fake it until she made it into comics. Instead she stumbled into a great job: founding and running this very website (she's Editor at Large now, very fancy). She's spoken at events like Geek Girl Con, New York Comic Con, and Comic Book City Con, wants to get a Batwoman tattoo and write a graphic novel, and one of her canine teeth is in backwards.
