Your favorite fandoms are celebrating Christmas on social media and I’m JOLLY

SANTA SANTA SANTA SANTA SANTA!

Lestat in a santa hat

If your X (née Twitter) feed has been looking like SantaCon recently, there may be a very funny reason. So many fandoms, from Interview with the Vampire to Heated Rivalry and more have been making Christmas-themed memes with their favorite moments and it is a genuine delight.

Allow me to be your concierge to this meme that’s not exactly easy to find unless you’re already in the know. It’s about juxtaposition. Only the real sickos who watch shows about angst and murder get it. Replace a quote with something Christmasy, the sillier and more nonsensical the better, and you’re golden. But first, let’s cue an “AWWWW” from the crowd with this Christmas-themed take on Shane’s sad little text in the second episode of Heated Rivalry. It’s more mopey than twisted. We will get to twisted.

Anytime a fandom is up to stuff, the Fannibals are not far behind. The Hannibal fans love to put their little guys in decorative headwear, obviously; and as it turns out they also love Christmas!

I also really enjoyed seeing some Yellowjackets content in this trend.

But ‘Interview with the Vampire’ takes the candy cane.

The fandom, which has been growing in numbers and voracity both in the wake of the second season’s arrival on Netflix and in anticipation of the third installment, The Vampire Lestat, went buckwild with this. I’m no internet scholar, just a blogger with a point of view, but I think they more or less started it. This is what fandom should be, right? No fighting. No discourse. Just people who love a thing coming together. At the very least, that’s what Christmas is all about.

A lot of these silly, hilarious posts seem to be from the already quotable and meme-able fight between Armand and Louis in Season 2, Episode 5, “Don’t Be Afraid, Just Start The Tape” – and who can blame them? It’s a perfect episode of television that could do with some some holiday cheer. But Lestat (Lestat Lestat Lestat Lestat etc.) gets a few jingles and jangles in too.

Happy holidays, y’all!
