Another day, another bridal shower turned into a battleground. Believe it or not, this time the crime scene involves white pants. A pregnant guest pulled up to the function dressed in what she swears were her only clean, wearable options. TikTok, however, had other ideas.

Apparently, being seven months pregnant does not grant diplomatic immunity when it comes to wearing anything even remotely bridal-coded. Cue the internet pearl-clutching: Was it an innocent mistake or a soft launch for Main Character Syndrome? Commenters are quick to remind her that pregnancy isn’t a hall pass. White is still white, and “light blue” is doing a lot of heavy lifting here.

‘I hate myself’

Kaylie (@kaylieraenicolee) already has a lot on her plate, what with being seven months pregnant and all. But this new bump on the road doesn’t involve prenatal jitters but an entirely different blunder on its own.

Her clip is only six seconds long, but loaded with much to talk about. It even got 5.5 million views in just under a week. Her text overlay reads: “I just pulled up to a bridal shower in white pants and now I’m contemplating if I should go home. I’m seven months pregnant and these were the only pants clean that fit.”

The video shows Kaylie with a hand to her forehead as she pans the camera down to show her outfit. First, the incriminating pants are front and center, but upon further look, the lightly colored blouse catches the eye. Is it white too? The audio she chose is of the viral sound from Charli XCX’s song, “House,” which says, “I think I’m gonna die in this house.”

Can You Wear White to a Bridal Shower?

In 2024, The Knot reports on what–and what not to– wear to a bridal shower. It answers that it’s better to forgo anything white or even light-colored.

“It’s traditional for the bride, or the couple, to wear white to their bridal shower and other prewedding events,” it says. “That being said, you might also want to avoid wearing light shades that can show up looking white in photos.”

In that case, is Kaylie’s blouse also a faux pas? In the comments, viewers call out the blouse as well, but Kaylie affirms that it’s blue, not white. Even so, at least according to the article, this blouse should also not be worn at the event. Considering these types of events are quite photo-heavy, one might have to think of what color implications their outfit might give off on camera. A blue shirt might show its hue in person, but a camera changes many components. In this case, Kaylie’s blouse just threw her further under the bus.

Viewers Pull No Punches

Kaylie’s comments section seemed to lack very little gentle parenting as viewers told her plain and straight that her mistake was too naive. One viewer says, “Why the white shirt…? Like what were you thinking?”

While another says, “It’s literally one color? How do you mess that up?” Kaylie replies to this comment, saying, “Pregnancy brain it was so dumb of me haha.”

One viewer shares, “I actually wouldn’t care, but I’m sure we could all agree that white pants AND white shirt is a little bit diabolical.” Kaylie then replies, “My shirt is blue but apparently photographs too white so now I know not to wear a baby blue shirt either.”

One viewer tries giving advice and acquires over 130,000 likes. “I would just try to keep your jacket on. I would make sure to say to the bride, sorry to be in white, but nothing else fit today.” They continued, “I think most people appreciate honesty.”

One viewer tries to defend Kaylie, saying, “Nah there’s no rules if you’re pregnant!!!” but another viewer with 400 likes replies, “That’s not true, I’d kick her out.”

In the same thread, one viewer responds with, “While I totally think this situation is ok there are, in fact, rules when you’re pregnant (no shade or hate).” Kaylie then says, “Agreed 100% just because you’re pregnant doesn’t mean you can’t be accountable.”

A smaller portion of viewers call out culture shock. One says, “American wedding culture has got to be studied.” While another says, “This comment section is a huge cultural shock for me as a non US person.”

Others commend Kaylie for even going to the bridal shower at all, since she’s seen months along. One viewer with 113,000 likes says, “7 months pregnant and showed up?! I would be thrilled idc what you are wearing.”

Kaylie’s Post-Bridal Shower Update

For those still invested in the story, Kaylie uploaded an update a few days after the original clip. In it, Kaylie explains that she has the “worst pregnancy brain.”

She shares how she constantly forgets things and did not remember she shouldn’t wear white until she was already out of the house. She said it was simply an accident, and she apologized to the bride as soon as she saw her.

Kaylie also clarifies that it was a family event and the bride-to-be is her husband’s cousin. She said the bride had no issues and, in fact, five other people also wore white. Kaylie says it’s “ridiculous” how her original video blew up and how so many people “lose their minds” over a simple mistake.

She then closes the story by reiterating that her blouse that day was not white, but blue. She even overlays a screenshot of the blouse on the Aritzia page. Lastly, Kaylie says, “It’s no reason to attack someone and tear them down.”
