Woman leaves old job for something new, but on her first day, she is fired due to a mystery relation to another employee, ‘Who is Amanda?’

Leaving an old job for something new can feel like a big risk, especially in today’s job market, but more often than not, taking the leap can bring about a big reward. However, for one woman on TikTok, that leap ended in a catastrophic fall as she was fired after just one day due to something entirely unexpected.

TikToker Jenna filmed her distressing breakdown from her car after she lost her job. She explained that she had been at her previous job for three years, but decided it was time for something new. She said she put in her two weeks’ notice and got hired at a new place where she was told she would have to start earlier.

Jenna admitted she decided to quit her last job rather than doing the full two weeks in order to be able to start her new job, however, things quickly went south.

“I go to the new job yesterday; she’s like, ‘you can go home early,’” Jenna says through tears. The next day, she was pulled aside by her manager before clocking in; “She’s like, ‘Don’t clock in; I need to have a talk with you.’” She was then told, “We’re going to have to let you go; you’re related to Amanda.”

Jenna was pretty confused by the revelation, screaming, “Who the f–k is Amanda?” She then admitted she was “freaking the f–k out,” as she no longer had a job.

A difficult position to be in

Viewers on TikTok sympathized with Jenna’s predicament and frustration with the situation, especially considering how difficult it is to gain employment in the current job market. One person called it a “valid reaction.” Another wrote, “We seriously seriously need to start passing laws protecting employee and tenant rights.”

Others recommended that Jenna try going back to her old job, telling her, “Unless you quit in a disrespectful way they will take you back.” Of course, it might be more difficult for her to go back after not finishing her two weeks’ notice period. Some criticized her choice to not work her notice while others blamed the new job for not respecting her current employers at the time. One person also recommended she sue the company for wrongful termination.

Of course, many also wanted to know who this Amanda was, as Jenna seemed not to know who she was despite her manager claiming they were related in some way. “Is there a reason you didn’t tell them you don’t know who Amanda is[?]” One viewer asked. If Amanda really was related to her, then hiring Jenna could be considered nepotism. So far, Jenna has not returned to fill viewers in on the details about her surprising new family member.
