What is Lestat’s beef with this fern?

Happy birthday, Lestat!

Scorpios are dramatic, mysterious, and obsessive. One of the best of us, Lestat de Lioncourt, is the best example of this. And a new “behind the scenes” look at The Vampire Lestat has many of us perplexed.

I, myself, am a November 8th Scorpio so I feel a kinship to Lestat (Sam Reid). He’s dramatic, vindictive, but also creative and the best. The Scorpio way. To celebrate his birthday, the official Annie Rice’s Immortal Universe account gave a tease of Lestat getting interviewed. The problem? There are ferns in the room. Well, ferns and a lamp.

The official press release is as follows: “Resentful of the perfunctory portrayal in the trashy bestseller “Interview with the Vampire,” the Vampire Lestat (Sam Reid) sets his story straight in a way only the Vampire Lestat can—by starting a band and going on tour. Gabriella. Nicholas. Magnus. Marius. Those Who Must Be Kept. They join Louis, Armand, Molloy, Sam, Raglan, Fareed and others we can’t tell you about yet on a sexy pilgrimage across space, time and trauma. No Auto-Tuning. No Trigger Warnings. All Feels Amplified. “

All of that is great. No notes. Can’t wait. BUT I would like to talk about Lestat’s seemingly one-sided beef with a fern. “I enter a room with that fern and I do not enter.”

What did the fern do to him?

Lestat is a particular man. That’s fine. But this video shows his one sided beef with a fern that had Daniel Malloy (Eric Bogosian) asking the team to get the fern out of there. Was he on Between Two Ferns? Does he just not like the general vibe of the plant? Is this some deep childhood trauma we don’t know about yet? I just want it to make sense.

But then again, in the same breath, he said if the fern was in the room with him he wasn’t in the room when he was, in fact, in a room with a fern. So who knows what Lestat was actually saying. Maybe we will learn more about him and the things he doesn’t want near him when The Vampire Lestat hits AMC in 2026.
