Millions of people across the U.S. are facing a massive winter storm affecting much of the country.

The National Weather Service has issued warnings to 26 states due to heavy snow, freezing rain, and dangerously cold temperatures. These conditions are expected to continue through the week, possibly until early February.

As of now, around 800,000 people are experiencing power outages across Tennessee, Mississippi, Texas, and other states.

As the snowstorm approached this past weekend, customers rushed to grocery stores to stock up on food items. One TikTok creator in Alabama attempted to bring some levity to the situation. In a recent video, he showed his local Walmart, exposing the one thing people refused to buy, even in a panic.

What Alabama Residents Refused to Purchase at Walmart

TikToker Jay Mack (@thmackmedia), who lives in Huntsville, Alabama, posted the clip four days ago at the time of writing. His video went viral with over 1.9 million views.

“People are [expletive] idiots,” he says bluntly at the start of the clip. He pans the camera showing empty rows upon (mostly) empty rows at the bread aisle.

Something stands out, however. “If you look at this [expletive], one thing I can guarantee you is people would rather [expletive] freeze and die, than eat this keto [expletive].”

He pans the camera to show the lone product left on the bread aisle: it’s a couple of loaves of Lewis 5-Seed keto bread.

“Get ready for the icepocalypse,” Mack writes in the video’s caption.

Commenters Share Local Stories and Advice

In the comments, viewers shared what their situation is looking like on the ground.

“You should have seen the liquor store today,” wrote one user.

“No one dare touched the Dasani,” another viewer said, attaching a photo of several Dasani multi-packs at a warehouse store.

“As a cashier for a certain grocery store, it’s ridiculous,” shared a third. “Had someone purchase 8 loafs of bread. It’s become beyond greedy. Damn, leave some for others to have. Ugh!”

Others advised on grocery supplies. “A person should always have plenty of stuff for 1 month min of supplys, basic stuff without having to run out 24 hours before things happen,” they wrote.

How Is the Weather Situation in Huntsville, Alabama?

The National Weather Service has issued a Cold Weather Advisory for Huntsville, Alabama, that will remain active from late Monday to early Tuesday. The area is expected to get cold winds of 23 to 41 degrees Fahrenheit.

Additionally, it forecasts minor flooding in the Paint Rock River near Woodville that might affect some farm and pasture lands.

All in all, however, people sharing live updates on the ground report cold weather, some icy and treacherous roads, but little snow in the city.

The local police department in Huntsville said on Sunday that they’re working to determine which roads are safe to drive on. It also advised people to “proceed with extreme caution” during this time if they must travel.

What Is in Keto Bread from Walmart?

A keto or ketogenic diet is a strict low-carb, high-fat diet that induces ketosis. When in this state, the body is thought to turn fat into energy, instead of using sugar or glucose. Meaning, you lose weight more easily.

As you can imagine, eating traditional bread on a low-carb diet is not advised. Enter keto bread.

To make a keto-friendly loaf at home, chefs use almond or coconut flour instead of regular wheat flour, along with baking powder, butter, and lots of egg whites.

The Lewis loaf, on the other hand, is much closer to the real thing. It uses the starch and protein from the wheat, but without any of the glucose or carbs.

Instead of assuming customers avoided the loaf because of taste, it’s important to remember that price may have also been a factor. While a full loaf can be as low as $1.42 at Walmart, the Lewis keto loaf may set you back as far as $4.99, even on discount.
