Tom Cruise isn’t about to ask Donald Trump for permission

We know Tom Cruise as Mr. Movie. He’s ready to do anything for cinema, including filming a movie in outer space. What he’s not going to do though is ask Donald Trump permission to do it though. And that’s kind of iconic.

Cruise, who has been braving some of the most impressive stunts with his work in the Mission: Impossible franchise, was planning on making a movie in space. The catch is that he needed to work with Space X and NASA to get it done. It’d reunited Cruise with his Edge of Tomorrow director Doug Liman but now the Trump of it all has put things on pause.

Cruise and Liman would have had to work in collaboration with NASA to figure out how filming would work and, according to a source who spoke with Page Six, it meant they’d need to get federal approval and backing. Meaning asking the President of the United States for a favor. And according to this source, Cruise didn’t want to do that.

“From what I understand, they would need NASA coordination to do the movie, and supposedly Tom Cruise did not want to ask Donald Trump for a favor. You’d need permission from the federal government,” the source said. They went on to note “Tom didn’t want to ask for political reasons.”

Whether that is because of Cruise’s stance to stay out of politics as a whole for his fans or because of his own personal beliefs is unknown. He has, in the past, turned down a Kennedy Center Honors nomination and cited “scheduling conflicts” under the Trump administration.

Even if this is part of Cruise’s plan to just remain apolitical, it is still fascinating to see where he draws the lines. So we probably won’t be seeing Tom Cruise film a movie in space. But also…when has something ever stopped Tom Cruise?
