‘This level of delusion is so diabolical’: Reporter corrects Kevin Hassett after he lies about inflation coming ‘way down’

Donald Trump and his conservative allies have little shame when it comes to lying. But, of late, the frequency of their falsehoods has increased to such gargantuan extents that when they are asked to justify them, they find it difficult to come up with appropriate excuses. The same is happening in a recent incident concerning the director of the National Economic Council and one of Trump’s mouthpieces, Kevin Hassett.
While appearing in an interview on CNBC recently, Kevin Hassett revealed that there could be permanent gaps in the recording of economic data for this month, owing to the government shutdown, which made it difficult for officials to keep records. While highlighting what that could mean for the future of America, Hassett said that they were going to be “staring a little bit in cloudy weather for a while” until they “get the data agencies back up.” Hassett also remarked that he feels positively about the US economy, noting that inflation had significantly dropped under the Trump administration in the last couple of months, as opposed to Biden’s, where it had soared.
The interviewer, Carl Quintanilla, attempted to counter Hassett’s claims by noting that inflation had actually increased in the past five months. However, Hassett dismissed his remarks, suggesting that the rising inflation was simply a reflection of the economy undergoing “ups and downs and seasonals.”
As Kevin Hassett’s atrocious claims about the American economy reached the people who have been facing the brunt of rising inflation for the last few months, they didn’t wait to tear him apart with their strong words. On X (formerly Twitter), one individual, while addressing Hassett’s comments, wrote:
“This level of delusion is so diabolical.”
Another, while highlighting a common trend among Trump supporters, remarked:
“One of the qualifications necessary to be in the Trump administration is the ability to keep a smile on your face when you’re lying through your teeth.”
Several others shared similar sentiments about Kevin Hassett’s comments on inflation.
