‘The tide turning fast’: Women take to the DC streets wearing The Handmaid’s Tale costumes to protest against Donald Trump
America has had enough of Donald Trump already. Since he became president this year, all Trump has done is lie to people and manipulate them, causing harm.
Since the beginning of his second term as President of the United States, one of Donald Trump’s key priorities has been to target the immigrant population in the United States. To achieve this, he has been deploying Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents throughout the country, who are conducting raids to identify “illegal aliens” and deport them. These raids, which have caused widespread resentment among residents, are not being conducted in a civilised manner. People are literally being dragged out of their homes and asked to prove their identities. Many are also being randomly questioned on the streets following racial profiling.
Another area where Donald Trump has been focusing his persistent efforts is in his trade wars with multiple countries, particularly China. As a result, he has raised tariffs on several imported goods, leading to rising prices in the American market and a decrease in sales of key imports, as countries refuse to buy due to escalating prices. The soybean and beef economy in the United States has been among the most affected by Trump’s policies.
To oppose Trump’s tariffs, this year, China has purchased almost no soybeans from America, despite being one of the largest purchasers. The beef economy has also been similarly affected, with importing countries, including China, showing no interest in purchasing. What’s worse, these countries are trying to establish trade routes with others, which, if they succeed, would lead to a breakdown of relationships between these nations and the United States for the foreseeable future, meaning more losses for soybean farmers and cattle ranchers.
The American citizens are observing everything that is occurring under Trump’s governance, and they are not staying silent. Recently, a large crowd of women marched in Washington, DC, the capital city of the United States, dressed in costumes from The Handmaid’s Tale (to represent the dystopian times) and protested against Trump’s strict immigration and tariff policies while holding signs that read “Trump must go now.” Videos of the march surfaced on various social media platforms, including X (formerly Twitter), where one user stated:
“The tide turning fast might be the reset Republicans need to rid themselves of Trump.”
Another wrote:
“Thank you!! To all of those who are protesting, thank you!! You give me hope!! Power to the people!!! Always!!”
Many others expressed similar feelings of displeasure towards Donald Trump and conveyed hope for the future of America.
