‘That’s gonna be a big problem for him’: Trump openly threatens the premier of Greenland for his stand against United States

For weeks, President Donald Trump has been talking about annexing Greenland, saying the territory is important to the United States from a “national security” perspective. To justify his potential future actions in the region, Trump has also claimed that Russian and Chinese ships are present in Greenland, suggesting these countries are planning to take over the territory.

Donald Trump may be dreaming of owning Greenland, but the people of the area, including their leaders, are not ready to give up their autonomy yet. In a statement on Tuesday, the Premier/Prime Minister of Greenland, Jens-Frederik Nielsen, said that if they had to choose between the United States and Denmark, they would definitely choose the latter. Nielsen clarified his stance further, saying that Greenland would choose NATO, the Kingdom of Denmark, and the European Union over the United States. He also said that the territory would not be “owned” by the United States, would not be “governed” by the United States, and would not be a “part” of the United States, sending a strong message to Donald Trump, who is planning to achieve all of these goals.

While Jens-Frederik Nielsen’s determination to ensure that Greenland’s autonomy remains intact is praiseworthy, and so are his efforts to stand up to dictator Donald Trump, the orange overlord is not too bothered by his words. He is openly threatening to take action against Nielsen for condemning him and the United States. In a video that has garnered significant traction on social media, especially X (formerly Twitter), Trump can be seen looking disgruntled when asked to comment on Nielsen’s comments about Greenland’s decision to stay with Denmark over the United States. While he initially did not understand who the reporter was talking about, when he later did, he said that he disagreed with Nielsen’s comments and that it was going to be a “big problem” for him. An open threat? Hmm. Not surprising. Anyway, here’s exactly what he said:

“Well, that’s their problem. That’s their problem. I disagree with him. I don’t know who he is. Don’t know anything about him. But that’s gonna be a big problem for him.”

Minister for Foreign Affairs of Denmark Lars Lokke Rasmussen and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Greenland Vivian Motzfeldt are set to meet United States Vice President JD Vance and United States Secretary of State Marco Rubio at the White House on Wednesday for discussions. Only time will tell whether Trump’s imperialist dreams are coming true or not.
