‘That’s enough cash’: Stephen Colbert mocks Melania documentary, takes sharp dig at Trump’s recent remarks

The last episode of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert wasn’t much different from the others before, despite the show’s host joking about taking a break from “politics” and focusing on something “fun” like the “movies.”
While Stephen Colbert’s assertions about him not delving into politics in the recent episode of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert weren’t taken much seriously by the audience, they were definitely surprised when he pulled out a small poster of the new Melania Trump documentary and stated that the movie would be the subject of discussion for the episode, leading the audience to lead into loud boos.
Colbert started hot and heavy with his Melania documentary bashing, discussing its collection, which, according to Amazon, had made $7 million in its opening weekend and “is the best start for a documentary (excluding concert films) in 14 years,” stating, “That’s a lot of qualifiers. It’s like your dad saying, ‘You’re my favourite child, excluding daughters, since I have had Carl.’”
Colbert then went on to further blast the Melania documentary, saying that the $7 million opening collection could have been a “solid” one otherwise, but considering that Amazon spent a whopping $75 million on the film, the amount does not even amount to 10 per cent of the total expenditure. Colbert also noted that the First Lady of the United States, Melania Trump, was paid $28 million for featuring in her documentary, which is “enough cash to put a smile on your face, if that were physically possible.” Burrrnnnn!!!
In case anyone’s wondering why this comment from Colbert about Melania Trump is truly iconic, just a day ago, her husband, while trying to deflect a question related to Jeffrey Epstein, posed by CNN journalist Kaitlan Collins, raised questions about her job and remarked on her aversion to smiling, saying that he has never seen her smile. In what world are people discussing victims of sexual assault and other heinous crimes supposed to smile? Also, in 2026, why are grown men asking women half their age to smile? Doesn’t he have a country to run? I don’t know.
Stephen Colbert was definitely in no mood to stop that day. So, he went further, taking a dig at Melania Trump for describing her documentary in the most confusing way possible. After showing a clip of Melania in which she describes her project as “not” a documentary but a “film” which is a “very deliberate act of authorship” inviting people “to witness events and emotions through a window of rich imagery,” Colbert remarked, “What?” He then expressed disbelief over Melania’s efforts to make a documentary about “a lady in a hat and somehow get it more confusing than Tenet.”
The rest of the segment was also dedicated to aiming at Melania Trump with a surprise appearance from Laura Benanti as the First Lady herself.
