Everyone Knows Supergirl & Superman’s Origin Stories, And Now DC Is About to Remix Them.

This summer, the Maid of Might will finally be headed back to the big screen thanks to DC Studios’ Supergirl movie. The film, which is based on Tom King and Bilquis Evely’s Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow series, is already making some unique choices with adapting Kara Zor-El’s origin story… and now, a few new comic miniseries are here to take that to the next level.
On Tuesday, DC announced details surrounding three new Elseworlds series, which are all ambitious stories set outside of the main DC continuity. In addition to a sequel to the hit series Dark Knights of Steel, the announcement included two new Super-themed books: Supergirl: Survive and Superman: Father of Tomorrow, all of which will be debuting across the summer of 2026 as part of the “Summer of Supergirl” publishing initiative.
Up first is Superman: Father of Tomorrow, which is written by Kenny Porter with art by Danny Earls and launches on May 27th. As the title might suggest, it promises to massively change Superman’s origin story — instead of Kal-El, it is Jor-El who escapes Krypton and lands in Kansas. Taken in by a kind couple, he grows into a hero who uses both his powers and intellect to protect Earth. The series promises to explore what it means for Superman to be shaped by experience rather than childhood.

It will then be followed by Supergirl: Survive, which is written by Ethan S. Parker and Griffin Sheridan with art by Rod Reis and arrives on June 3rd. The series drops readers into a harsh reality where Krypton is collapsing, and General Zod is tightening control. Teenage Kara Zor-El and baby Kal-El are sent off together in an experimental rocket, forced to navigate a universe that is anything but welcoming. The series centers on survival, family, and resilience in the face of overwhelming odds.

And finally, July will bring the return of Dark Knights of Steel, the fan-favorite medieval DC universe. Written by Tom Taylor with art by Otto Schmidt, Dark Knights of Steel II returns to continue the saga, promising more high-stakes conflict and fantasy-driven storytelling.

What Is the Supergirl Movie About?
