When Does the ‘Stranger Things’ Finale Come Out?

Stranger Things 5 Volume 3 is getting ready to end the long journey we’ve all been on. Volume 2 aired on Christmas evening and promptly sent the fandom scrambling.
Will’s big secret is out in the open and the kids have a plan to stop Vecna once and for all. Stranger Things 5 Volume 3, a.k.a. “The series finale” begins on December 31 in both theaters and on Netflix. At 5pm PT, the true end begins on the streaming service and you can bet those viewing numbers are going to be massive. None of your faves are safe and Netflix honestly likes it that way.
Matt and Ross Duffer directed the last episode of Stranger Things 5. The creators have been overwhelmed by the response to this final season. Over on Netflix, the fourth season alone has stacked up over 140 million views worldwide. The release of Volume 1 also broke a record for engagement with the streamer. Now, as fans get ready to say goodbye to the Hawkins kids, you can expect all kinds of emotion from the people who have been on this ride for years at this point.
It might be a second before anybody forgets Will’s dynamic confession at the end of volume two. Knuckleheads online have already review bombed that episode. But, as is often the case with these sorts of things, no one is going to abstain from the end of an almost decade long story because of it. Folks are locked in for the long haul. And, not even New Year’s Eve is gonna stop them.
Stranger Things 5 Volume 3, the finale begins tomorrow

Getting all of those people into New Year’s Eve screenings for Stranger Things 5 Volume 3 might be a testament to the show’s staying power. There has been a palpable move towards trying to generate different in person fan experiences after 2020. This screening of the Netflix favorite is just the latest example of that. Sometimes it’s a celebrity look alike contest, other times it’s conventions, and now it’s Stranger Things.
Ross Duffer was genuinely moved by the fans packing those cinemas. “Over 1.1 million of you have already RSVPed to the finale screenings on NYE and New Year’s Day, and more than 3,500 showtimes across 620+ theaters are already completely full,” Duffer wrote on Instagram. “What a way to close out a ten-year journey—together. Maybe we’ll see some of you in LA.”
Even though there’s a ton of those folks waiting for their chance to see how Vecna will be defeated, people at home are just as curious. Part of the legacy of Stranger Things is how the series is effectively a relic of the pre-2020 media landscape. Netflix green lit this show back when season runs were longer, There were slightly longer leashes for the streamer’s own programming, and there wasn’t the push to be the literal biggest thing on the platform. All of that adds up to a massive event that gets rolling in just 24 hours.
