Stephen Colbert would like to change bodies with Donald Trump for a hilarious reason

In the last couple of months, writer, comedian, and talk show host Stephen Colbert has emerged as one of the most vocal critics of Donald Trump and his administration. Especially after his government almost got his show cancelled at the beginning of this year, Colbert has been as ferocious as ever in his criticism of Trump, and he has continued that streak during his recent appearance at an event as well.
On December 26, 2025, at Slate’s Political Gabfest, when host John Dickerson asked who he would like to switch bodies with, Stephen Colbert gave a very “predictable” answer, saying he would like to be Donald Trump. Colbert also offered to share what he would like to do if he were able to successfully switch bodies with the current United States president, saying that he would like to “resign.” Following his answer, when Dickerson revealed that he had “anticipated” that Colbert would provide an answer similar to what he did, Colbert continued to elaborate on the thought processes behind the decision and said:
“No scandal, no scandal, no confession, no Sturman draw. Just go. It’s been great. I’m wonderful, I’m the best ever. I’m going to go out on top. Um, I’ve done everything. I I’m just gonna I’m just going to go, that’s it. It can be a glorious ending. I just just end it.”
It is essential to note that the animosity between Stephen Colbert and Donald Trump is not one-sided, as it has originated from both sides. On multiple occasions, Donald Trump has also expressed his disdain for Colbert, often in reaction to his comments about him. Very recently, on Christmas Eve, Trump went all guns ablaze on Stephen Colbert, wishing for the cancellation of his show in a Truth Social post, something he had voiced his wish for in the past as well. In addition to requesting CBS to “put him to sleep,” Trump also called Colbert a “pathetic trainwreck,” a person with “no talent” and not possessing any skills necessary for “show business success.” His childish rant about Colbert read something like this:
“Stephen Colbert is a pathetic trainwreck, with no talent or anything else necessary for show business success. Now, after being terminated by CBS, but left out to dry, he has actually gotten worse, along with his nonexistent ratings. Stephen is running on hatred and fumes ~ A dead man walking! CBS should “put him to sleep,” NOW, it is the humanitarian thing to do!.”
