‘Sounds rigged’: People express strong opinions after Trump says he does not ‘need any more votes’ for his ‘big beautiful bill’

PALM BEACH, FLORIDA - DECEMBER 16: U.S. President-elect Donald Trump speaks at a news conference at Trump's Mar-a-Lago resort on December 16, 2024 in Palm Beach, Florida. In a news conference that went over an hour, Trump announced that SoftBank will invest over $100 billion in projects in the United States including 100,000 artificial intelligence related jobs and then took questions on Syria, Israel, Ukraine, the economy, cabinet picks, and many other topics. If deception were a person, it would resemble Donald Trump. The man has been lying directly in the faces of Americans for months now, after becoming President for a second term this year.

At present, one of his biggest lies is that the current ongoing government shutdown is caused by the Democrats when it was he and his Republican buddies who had laid the groundwork for it to happen. While he did not admit it back then and still does not on multiple occasions, it appears that he is acknowledging it in what can only be considered a badly calculated move. In a recent press conference, Donald Trump highlighted that he had taken care of ‘Medicaid” and “Medicare” in his “big beautiful bill”, which he and his party members had worked on for approximately four years.

He also noted that he would not require any votes on the bill, referring to the Democrat votes needed to continue it. He said:

“We took care of Medicaid and Medicare. We took care of everything. We didn’t know where we’d stand in a year or two years from now, so we put every single thing that we wanted in that bill for four years. So we don’t need any more votes.”

Many people who watched the clip of Trump making these comments highlighted how he had left no room for the Democrats to revise what people assume (given that it’s Trump and the Republicans) is a highly restrictive and impractical bill, leading to a deadlock between the two parties while passing the bill. Therefore, while the Republicans may be saying that the shutdown was caused by the Democrats and making it look like so, it was actually them who were behind it. One person wrote in relation to this discovery:

“We don’t need anymore votes” sounds rigged.”

Another person rightfully noted that by saying “took care,” he means he “kicked 17 million people off Medicaid” and was on his way to causing “most people’s health premiums to double or more on November 1st.” Many others shared similar thoughts in their criticism of Trump.
