An Olive Garden customer approaches their server with an engagement ring box and asks them to bring it out on a plate of tiramisu. The server makes fun of the request in a now-viral TikTok, sparking discussion about how common an Olive Garden proposal actually is.

In a video with over 142,000 views, TikToker User472NY3128 (@liveyalifeworegrets) posts a picture of the proposal dessert spread.

The restaurant staff write “Will you marry me?” in chocolate lettering on the plate, with a small slice of tiramisu on the side. The ring box is open, showing a diamond engagement ring inside.

However, the server wasn’t impressed with the display. They write in the caption, “Mid rush On Valentine’s Day too be so fr take it to the the local park.”

Other servers in the comments section reveal a surprising trend of proposals at Olive Garden. Many share pictures of the displays they were asked to present to the guests.

“I had TWO proposals on a random Tuesday night at the garden. I was so confused,” one writes.

Another commenter shares, “Okay to be fair, my dad proposed to my mom at an Olive Garden and they just celebrated their 30 year anniversary. Still dog him for it tho.”

One poster tries to do the math on the r/olivegarden subreddit, estimating how many proposals have occurred at Olive Garden globally. They write, “Online it says there are over 900 restaurants, so I estimate maybe 3000 proposals. My boyfriend thinks that’s way too high, more like 500. What do you think?”

Olive Garden servers on the subreddit weigh in with their estimates, too. One says, “I can’t say I’ve worked at my OG for long, but I’ve asked that exact question of my GM and she told me that ‘it happens, but its not really often at all.'”

Another guesses, “Theres been at least 3 in a 5 month time period for my resturaunt that recently opened.”

Some commenters show similar proposal dessert set-ups at other chain restaurants.

“Someone did this when I worked at ihop and put the ring between the pancakes girlie poured syrup in the pancakes,” a viewer says.

A second posts a photo of a ring box on a plate, writing, “At our local Texas Roadhouse , most awkward proposal ever still cute tho.”

“At chilis… with a ring from marshals,” another remarks with a picture of a similar chocolate lettering proposal.

What do viewers think of the Olive Garden proposal?

Viewers share mixed opinions on whether couples should get engaged at Olive Garden or similar chain restaurants.

A commenter remarks, “Ain’t no way someone is proposing with pre-made frozen Sysco Tiramisu.”

“I would immediately say no and to try again another time. That just shows lack of effort,” a second says.

“Honestly if my man did this id be upset he made the workers do his work,” another writes.

However, some defend the couples’ choice of proposal venues.

“People judge too much not knowing if the couple has a sentiment to that ‘local Olive Garden’ could’ve been their first date etc,” a viewer points out.

“These comments made me realize how truly ungrateful people are. It might be cheesy to yall but someone they might think it’s the best thing,” another suggests.
