Marvel’s way of promoting their new film, Avengers: Doomsday, has been to slowly roll out teaser trailers with specific characters as the focus. It started with Chris Evans’ return as Captain America, then went to Chris Hemsworth’s Thor focused teaser. Now, the big guns are rolling in: The X-Men.

A teaser was released this morning that has Sir Patrick Stewart’s Charles Xavier holding Magneto’s (Sir Ian McKellan) hand while Erik is providing a voiceover, saying “Death comes for us all. It’s all I know for sure.” It then cuts Scott Summers (James Marsden) ripping off his protective glasses and shooting his ray beam around like when he was grieving Jean Gray (Famke Janssen) at Alkali Lake.

While that’s all we got, it is a lot to unpack. Especially to the millennials who grew up watching both X-Men: The Animated Series as well as the X-Men movies that started coming out in 2000. For us younger millennials, these actors and their takes on Charles Xavier’s mutants were our first introduction to the comic heroes.

So when the infamous Avengers: Doomsday chairs revealed to fans that Kurt aka Nightcrawler (Alan Cumming) was coming back along with a lot of our beloved X-Men, many of us felt transported back to the early 00s. Now, seeing Scott Summers, Magneto, and Professor Xavier together has that same emotional pull.

Summers, affectionately known as Cyclops, is one of the most beloved heroes in the Marvel canon. More specifically, he is the leader of the X-Men and someone who holds a lot of power within their storyline. So to have Xavier, Erik, and Scott all together in the Avengers: Doomsday teaser is a bit emotional.

But it also helps that they did fix one thing about Scott that fans were angry with in the original films. In the animated world and comics, Scott’s look was very important. The 2000s films were a mix of things that didn’t quite fit what fans know and love about Scott. So getting to see James Marsden in what looks like the iconic look from the comics is exciting!

And I love the nod to Scott’s upset from the original films as well. It all mixes to make me incredibly excited about Avengers: Doomsday. To me, my X-Men.

Avengers: Doomsday hits theaters on December 18, 2026.
