‘Let this be your sign’: St. Louis woman buys Samsung washer-dryer combo. She wasn’t prepared to deal with consequences for 7 years

A woman bought a Samsung washer and dryer combo. Then, her entire home flooded after seven years of using the appliance.
TikToker Lizzy Joy Tucker (@_mrs.tucker) posted a video that’s received over 1.6 million views showing the aftermath of her washer and dryer combo appliance flooding her home. The all-in-one appliance, which was located on the first floor of the building, flooded downward toward her basement. Based on the comments section, there wasn’t significant damage to the home, but Tucker and her family had to check for mold and pay for some flooding-related expenses.
Tucker clarified that she had owned the washer and dryer for seven years beforehand. Then, it malfunctioned, but not before years of issues. “We’ve had a Samsung washer+dryer for 7 years and they’ve been nothing but awful with problem after problem. Let this be your sign to buy any other brand,” Tucker added.
What’s the issue with Samsung washers + dryers?
Samsung appliances, such as fridges, stovetops, washers, and dryers, are generally known for having technical issues and defects. Tucker’s flooding issue occurred because “the water line sensor wouldn’t trip off, so it continued to flow over into our air vent right in front of the washer.”
That can happen because of a number of faulty parts. According to Samsung customers, the appliances are more likely to break down over time, with parts failing before an appliance’s warranty even expires.
Fridges in particular have difficulties maintaining a regular temperature, leading to food spoilage.
The washer and dryers, too, have some large complaints from consumers. One specific washer had a significant issue with its seal that made it nearly unusable.
“[I] had [the] washing machine installed for less than six months. Reported the problem to Samsung who said they’d call me back the next working day but didn’t call me – I called them back two weeks later. Refused to replace the seal. I am done with Samsung products now. company is disgusting,” said one consumer.
Other washers have unique yet unsatisfactory problems that also damage the device. Samsung reportedly did not withhold its warranties for some users. “Washing Machine failed after less than 4 years service (warrantied for only 2 years). Samsung offered a ‘repair assessment’ for £149 followed by additional parts and labour cost,” another customer added.
Some discussion threads say that Samsung washers and dryers are fine, as long as users know how to make quick repairs to avoid extra fees. But, other appliances still have longstanding issues. “I’ve had a Samsung washer and dryer set for 6-7 years, and haven’t had any issues. Now my Samsung dishwasher is another story,” said one commenter.
Where should you keep the washer and dryer?
Unfortunately, Tucker had her Samsung washer + dryer plugged in upstairs on the first floor of her house, leading to flooding down below in the basement. She and her family checked the house for mold and other issues afterward due to the flooding.
“This is why we keep our washer in the basement/bottom floor,” said one commenter. “Learned hard way growing up.”
While there’s no specific rule that says washers and dryers work better on bottom floors, it does prevent potential mishaps and complications related to them. Generally, washers and dryers should not be installed without a drain pan, at least if they’re on a second or third floor of a building. They’re best in spaces with good ventilation or out of the way, which is why many commenters advocated for Tucker to transform her basement into a laundry room when she gets a new washer + dryer combo.
Tucker said in the comments that she preferred her washer + dryer upstairs despite commenter recommendations.
@_mrs.tucker Yeahhh so our washer flooded our laundry room and went down the vents into our basement. What a wild experience. We’ve had a Samsung washer+dryer for 7 years and they’ve been nothing but awful with problem after problem. What other brands do commenters recommend?
Commenters immediately clocked that the Samsung washer + dryer combo was a big issue, so they had a few alternative appliance recommendations.
“Samsung for TV and phone but nothing else,” one commenter said. “SPEED QUEEN all the way for the washer and dryer. I will never buy anything else.”
A former associate who worked at an appliance store added that “As someone who worked for an appliance company…. Speed Queen, GE or Whirlpool only. They have the least amount of problems and if you do have issues, they are the easiest brands to get service on quickly and affordably.”
The Mary Sue reached out to Samsung via email and Tucker via email and TikTok direct message for comment.
