The discourse around adapting iconic literature for our current moment wages on, especially after the recent release of Emerald Fennell’s “Wuthering Heights”. Now, Netflix is throwing its hat into the proverbial ring… with a teaser trailer that is sure to make people swoon.

On Tuesday, Netflix released a short teaser trailer for its adaptation of Pride and Prejudice, a six-part series which is debuting on the platform at some point this year. The minute-long footage showcases the first look at Elizabeth Bennet (Nosferatu and Deadpool & Wolverine‘s Emma Corrin) and Mr. Darcy (Slow Horses and Benediction‘s Jack Lowden). While the footage doesn’t reveal much… it’s still enough to convey the general vibe of the new Jane Austen adaptation.

The cast of this Pride and Prejudice adaptation includes Olivia Colman as Mrs. Bennet, Rufus Sewell as Mr. Bennet, Freya Mavor as Jane Bennet, Rhea Norwood as Lydia Bennet, Hopey Parish as Mary Bennet, Hollie Avery as Kitty Bennet, Jamie Demetriou as Mr. Collins, Daryl McCormack as Mr. Bingley, Louis Partridge as Mr. Wickham, and Fiona Shaw as Lady Catherine de Bourgh.

“Playing Elizabeth Bennet is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity,” Corrin said when the cast was first announced. “To be able to bring this iconic character to life, alongside Olivia and Jack, with Dolly’s phenomenal scripts, is truly the greatest honor. I can’t wait for a new generation to fall in love with this story all over again.”

Who Is Behind Netflix’s Pride and Prejudice?

It almost goes without saying that expectations are high for a new Pride and Prejudice adaptation, especially after Kiera Knightley and Matthew Macfadyen rewrote a generation’s brains with a single hand twitch in Joe Wright’s 2005 film version. But the creative team behind Netflix’s version is an inspired choice: the series is brought to life by Dolly Alderton, who previously won the National Book Award for her 2018 memoir Everything I Know About Love. Heartstopper‘s Euros Lyn will be helming the episodes.

“Once in a generation, a group of people get to retell this wonderful story and I feel very lucky that I get to be a part of it,” Alderton said in a statement when the cast was first announced. “Jane Austen’s ‘Pride and Prejudice’ is the blueprint for romantic comedy – it has been a joy to delve back into its pages to find both familiar and fresh ways of bringing this beloved book to life. With Euros Lyn directing our stellar cast, I am so excited to reintroduce these hilarious and complicated characters to those who count Pride and Prejudice as their favorite book, and those who are yet to meet their Lizzie and Mr. Darcy.”

“We are delighted to be sharing this beloved British classic with our global audience. Pride and Prejudice is the ultimate romantic comedy,” Netflix executive Mona Qureshi said when the project was first announced. “Dolly’s fierce intelligence and enormous heart, twinned with her genuine love of the Austen novel, mean she is able to bring new insights, whilst celebrating all that the generations of fans hold so dear. The caliber of a cast led by Emma, Jack, and Olivia is a testament to this precious story being in the best possible hands with Euros Lyn and the team at Lookout Point at the helm.”

This is far from the only literary classic that Netflix is bringing to the screen in 2026, with a limited series adaptation of John Steinbeck’s East of Eden also set to debut this year. Written by Zoe Kazan, it will star Florence Pugh, Mike Faist, Tracy Letts, and The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping‘s Joseph Zada.

Pride and Prejudice will be released on Netflix at some point in 2026.
