A woman and her brother wait painstakingly for his luggage to arrive at the Pittsburgh Airport baggage claim carousel. They can’t believe the state his personal belongings arrive in.

In a video with over 6.2 million views, TikToker Loons (@laysuperstar) and her brother stand at a mostly empty baggage claim. Her brother chases a small item on the conveyor belt.

He grabs it and turns around, revealing that it’s one of his socks and a pair of underwear. Her brother shakes his head in disbelief as he stands waiting for the rest of his luggage.

Then, another singular sock pops out of the conveyor.

He walks around the baggage claim, head hung in shame, as he picks up his socks and underwear one by one.

Loons notes that the whole process took around 30 minutes, but she didn’t mind the wait. She writes, “This was the best 30 minutes of my life.”

He treks back to the customer service desk to explain that only some of these items popped out onto the baggage claim.

Finally, his intact duffel bag pops out onto the conveyor. Turns out, his sock and underwear pocket was unzipped.

What happens if items come out of checked baggage?

While the TikToker’s brother was luckily able to collect his items one by one, other travellers weren’t as lucky when their zippers failed.

One user on the r/americanairlines subreddit says they found their checked bag’s zipper was busted, with multiple items missing.

They write, “At final destination my bag was in a bin, zipper busted open and “Several items of clothing missing from the bag. Including unique year specific items from races and stuff that can’t be purchased again as well as wedding attire.”

Many airlines have a claims process for missing or damaged items in checked baggage, which may allow passengers to recover the cost. Additionally, some travel insurance policies may provide coverage if the airlines do not.

However, a zipper failure could disqualify passengers from filing a claim, according to several comments on the Reddit post.

How did viewers react?

In the comments, viewers joke about the baggage handlers’ reaction to the loose items.

“The baggage handlers are all like ‘watch this,'” one writes, including a meme of Leonardo DiCaprio.

Another comments, “I’m crying was someone just placing them on the belt on the other end.”

“I’m in tears WHAT is happening back there,” a third adds.

A fourth simply posts a picture of a man with underwear on his face.

Others comment that the experience seemed like a “humiliation ritual” and note that her brother was lucky other travellers weren’t there.

One viewer says, “I do NOT claim this energy. He’s stronger than me because I’d be curled up on the floor and crying.”

“At least there wasn’t a crowd to witness this humiliation ritual,” a second remarks.
