Robert Patrick Tells Us He Won’t Be in the X-Files Revival (or Any More Terminator Movies!)

The truth is out there, straight from John Doggett and the T-1000!

Looks like Scully and Mulder may be going it alone when The X-Files returns to TV next year. Speaking with The Mary Sue regarding his involvement in the revival, Robert Patrick confirms what he kinda sorta said during a recent interview at a Scandinavian sci-fi convention: he will not be back to play Agent John Doggett again.

“I’ll set the record straight with you. I’m not going to do it.” Patrick, currently of CBS series Scorpion, told The Mary Sue during a one-on-one interview at the Rogers Media Upfronts in Toronto on Tuesday.

“I’m very happy with the job I have. I’m on CBS—that’s a different network—and I’m content and happy and I don’t really see a reason to go and revisit that show. It’s not that I wouldn’t be interested … I just don’t know what the reason is to both at the same time.”

As any X-Files fan will know, Patrick’s John Doggett was brought on as a replacement for David Duchovny’s Fox Mulder during the show’s eighth and ninth seasons, playing opposite Gillian Anderson’s Dana Scully and Annabeth Gish’s Monica Reyes. But contrary to any fan wishes, Patrick appears to be about as willing to revisit Doggett as he is to revisit that other character we all have our fingers crossed he will want to play again.

“A lot of people ask me, ‘Are you doing the Terminator [movies]?’” he tells TMS. “You know, I did Terminator 2. I didn’t 3. I didn’t do 4. I didn’t do 5. I don’t want to really go back and do the Terminator again. I did it really well and I’m proud of the performance. There’s no reason to really revisit it. Because I might not be as good as it.”

He adds with a laugh, “I mean, I was 30 years old when I made that. Maybe I could do it better. I don’t know. But I’m not really … I’m not compelled to do it.”

In general, Patrick says he’s not eager to revisit any characters from his past, applying a biking mentality to choosing his roles these days.

“It’s all about what’s ahead of me, not what’s behind me,” he explains. “It’s like when I’m riding my motorcycle—I’m not really looking at what’s behind me, I’m looking at what’s ahead of me, at where I’m going, and I’m concerned about it. I still think there’s some great things out there for me to do, and [my character on Scorpion] Cabe Gallo is one of them.”
