‘Peak absurdity’: Trump is busy boasting about his flyover while Americans struggle to make ends meet

A lot has happened in the last few weeks amid the ongoing government shutdown. As numerous federal employees faced the threat of permanent job loss, with some even receiving termination notices, the Trump administration seized this moment to inflict further pain on Americans. They accomplished this by reducing SNAP benefits and refusing to tap into the emergency funds designated for such crises.
With SNAP benefits halted at the start of November, countless individuals who depend on these services for their daily meals are now at risk of starvation once their supplies run out. Just yesterday, both Democrats and Republicans voted to end the government shutdown, paving the way for the approval of a clean Continuing Resolution, which will also restore SNAP benefits as usual. However, it will take some time for these changes to take effect. The agreement reached between the two parties on the Senate floor must first be sent to the House, where Speaker Johnson may or may not choose to consider it for a bill. Following that, the President is expected to sign it into law.
In the midst of all this turmoil, as the futures of thousands of Americans hang in the balance, Donald Trump seems to think it’s appropriate to spend time at golf courses, host parties for his wealthy friends at Mar-a-Lago, and even redesign the White House. As if that weren’t enough, he also feels it’s acceptable to occasionally publicly flaunt his extravagant lifestyle while the entire nations suffer under his exploitative regime. Recently, Trump was spotted bragging about a flyover while heading to an NFL game (where he was met with loud boos). Speaking to the press, Trump remarked:
“I just want to say, was that the greatest flyover ever? Nobody’s ever done a flyover like that. So these are the best pilots in the world. They say, whoever flies Air Force One, the best pilots, and we just saw that. That was great. So we are gonna have a good game. Things are going along very well. Country’s doing well.”
Trump’s self-centred remarks about the best flyover didn’t resonate well with the audience, as one can expect. They took to social media platforms, including X (formerly Twitter), to voice their opinions. One user commented:
“Trump bragging about a flyover while Americans go hungry is peak absurdity. The country suffers, families struggle, and he’s measuring greatness in loops over rooftops. Leadership isn’t a spectacle, it’s showing up when people need you most.”
Another wrote:
“Trump has surely received the warning that the public is outraged by airport closures and families going hungry, and he’s reacting by laughing in the face of Americans. First he posted photos of the banquets at Mar-a-Lago, and now of his wonderful flight on Air Force One.”
Many others echoed similar sentiments about Trump on X.
