Nikki Glaser is a beloved comedian. She’s also known for her ability to roast people. Which made her hosting the Golden Globes an interesting affair. The comedian shared that one star almost didn’t show up on time for fear that she’d roast him.

During a conversation for the Time 100 summit, Glaser talked about how she found out stars were afraid of her hosting. After her roast of Tom Brady, stars were reportedly afraid of what she’d say to them at the Golden Globes ceremony. Glaser explained that there is a difference between hosting an award ceremony and a roast and said that she’s “hired to be mean” at roasts. For the Globes, she said “it’s not my job to ruin their night.”

She did say she wished she would have known people thought that way before the ceremony. “I wish I would have known that, because I would have just something to diffuse that a little bit,” Glaser said. “Next time’s going to be a lot more fun, because I think they know the tone that I have now.”

But there was one actor who was reportedly afraid of what Glaser was going to say, so much so that he almost came late to miss the opening monologue. That star? A Complete Unknown‘s Timothée Chalamet. Glaser was asked prior to her hosting who she was going to “skewer” and she said  “not really anyone, but in order to serve a compliment about a performance, I have to make a joke with it, so I probably want to say something to Timothée Chalamet, ‘cause I just loved his performance in A Complete Unknown. So I’ll probably make a joke about him.”

That got back to Chalamet who was going to skip the monologue and Glaser had to write a note to his publicist, explaining how she loves him and his work and wasn’t going to make fun of him. Glaser said she wrote to the publicist, saying “I love Timothée. I’m not telling you the jokes, but I promise you the jokes are uplifting him. I’m a huge fan, I would never do anything to ruin his night.”

Glaser did have one of the funniest jokes in recent years in her monologue, making a sex joke about Glen Powell as the Twisters and Hit Man star was sitting in the audience with his parents. So it wasn’t as if topics were off limits but Glaser did a great job and hopefully now that stars know what she’s capable of, they’ll have fun with her monologue next year.
