TikTok user @hannahgstrauss got pulled over for eating beef sticks

As mentioned earlier, just two days ago, TikTok user @hannahgstrauss uploaded a video explaining how she was pulled over by the police simply for munching on beef sticks. She begins her narration by saying that she is 32 weeks pregnant and was eating beef sticks with her daughter in her car. She then reveals that while she and her daughter were doing that, she passed a police car but didn’t think much of it. Suddenly, she noticed the police vehicle turn on the lights, and two officers got out of the vehicle and approached her car. Hannah initially thought they were going after someone ahead of her or nearby for speeding or another reason, but then the lights flicked on, and it finally clicked for her that she was the one being pulled over.

After that, two officers approached Hannah’s vehicle, questioned her, and asked if she knew why she was pulled over. Hannah repeatedly said she didn’t know what had happened, which led them to say she was pulled over for using her phone in the car and gestured that she was holding it in front of her face. Hannah clarified that she was not using her phone but was eating beef sticks and holding them in the same position that the officers thought she was holding her phone. To support her claim, she pointed to the open packet of beef sticks on her passenger seat and reiterated that she was just eating them, not using her phone. The officers refused to believe her and said she was lying, but she explained that she was only holding the beef sticks that way so she could keep driving and eat at the same time. Eventually, the officers stopped questioning her but warned her not to eat her beef sticks in that manner again, as they might mistake her for using her phone.

Pregnancy cravings are pretty common

It is very common for pregnant women to experience food cravings. According to an article published by UNICEF on May 5, 2025, pregnancy cravings can appear as early as the first trimester, with about nine out of ten women experiencing them. There are several reasons why these cravings can occur. One reason is that during pregnancy, hormones can cause a pregnant person’s sense of smell and taste to become heightened, making them more inclined to consume certain foods because they taste better when pregnant.

Food cravings during pregnancy can also happen because of deficiencies in the body caused by the redirection of nutrients to the fetus, which can leave the pregnant person’s body lacking essential nutrients. Additionally, fluctuations in blood sugar levels can make pregnant women feel hungrier at certain times. Another compelling theory proposes that psychological and cultural influences mainly shape pregnancy cravings. Cultural beliefs such as “eating for two’ lead many to view pregnancy as a period when women feel free to indulge in any foods, including so-called “unhealthy” options like sweets, without limits. Research supports this viewpoint by highlighting the cultural nature of food cravings. For instance, in the US, chocolate is the most frequent craving, whereas in Egypt, very few women report craving it, and in Japan, rice tops the list.
