Woman books local makeup artist for Mexico wedding. Then her sister ends up in tears: ‘What mortician did you use??’

A woman decides to get professional makeup done for her sister’s wedding. She can’t believe what the final result looks like compared to the inspiration picture.
TikToker Claire White (@clairelwhite) shows the inspiration picture she gave the makeup artist. The photo includes a glowy, natural foundation, some bronzer, and light eye makeup. Then, she shows what she got.
The foundation is thick and too light for her skin tone. A border of bare skin peeks through around her eyebrows, where the foundation was wiped away. A single tear leaves a large streak down the side of her face. Her lips are overlined with a matte pink lipstick.
White shares at the end of the slideshow that she ended up taking the makeup off and redoing it herself before walking down the aisle with her sister. The viral TikTok quickly garnered over 4.9 million views.
Was there a miscommunication with the makeup artist?
In a follow-up video, White explains what went wrong during the makeup application. She notes that her sister’s wedding was at a resort in a small town in Mexico. While the resort doesn’t have its own makeup artists, it contracts with local artists who can come to the resort for events.
White decides to book a makeup session with an artist without seeing her previous work. When the makeup artist arrives, she realizes they have a language barrier. So, she shows her an inspiration picture and hopes she’ll recreate it.
Right before the makeup finishes, White feels the artist wipe around her eyebrows. Then, she goes to the bathroom to see the finished product.
“I see myself and that’s when I immediately start sobbing,” she says. “That was the worst experience of my life.”
She takes the thick makeup off and puts on a tinted sunscreen. Her sister, the bride, finishes her makeup for her.
“I highly recommend not doing that and just doing your own makeup,” she says at the end of the clip.
In an email to The Mary Sue, White says she didn’t tell the makeup artist that she didn’t like the final result. She also explains why she won’t share who the makeup artist was despite comments asking for more information.
“I didn’t say anything about it. We were in a very local small town in Mexico where life is very different so that’s why I won’t share any information on the make up artist,” she writes. “She looked so proud, and she does this for a living, so I wouldn’t want to take away source of income for anyone.”
White says her sister-in-law also got her make-up done by the same artist, and took it off before the ceremony.
Viewers react to the makeup disaster
Makeup artists flood the comments of the viral video, reacting to the application gone wrong.
“I swear to god I wasn’t prepared for how bad it was going to be. As a makeup artist I am sorry for what you have endured,” one remarks.
“Im a bridal makeup artist. This is my job and girl. I am so sorry that happened to you. If you were in my chair you would have looked like your inspo pic,” a second writes.
Others joke about the final result, pointing out how different the inspiration photo was.
“I just need to know if Face ID worked on your phone or not,” a viewer questions.
Another says, “It kind of matches the inspo is you squint your eyes and then press the lock button on your phone x.”
“What mortician did you use??” a third jokes.
The Mary Sue reached out to White via email and TikTok direct message for further comment. We will update the story when she replies.
