A woman went on a date with an older man from another country. Then, when she got home and let him know she was safe, he slipped and told her that he had slipped “melatonin pills” into her pills that night.

TikToker Dudewateryoutalkingabout (@pinkunicorn[expletive]) posted a concerning exchange with an older man she went out with. After their date, he ended up rambling to her and admitting that he “slipped her” something during the night.

Since creating her TikTok post, the anonymous commentator has received a slew of comments recommending that she go to the police if her story genuinely happened. While her TikTok account says not to “take anything seriously,” the comments and posts spelled out a dangerous situation. Her post received 7.7 million views, with thousands of commenters weighing in on the situation. Many told her she should have dialed 9-1-1 immediately, while others were simply shocked by the confession.

Commenters immediately see red flags after

The creator posted two screenshots from her text exchanges with an older man that she went on a date with. In the first screenshot, the man she went out with asks her to “let [him] know when [she] got home safe.” The TikToker responded about 22 minutes after his initial outreach. Nothing was necessarily out of the norm for an “after first date” exchange. His comments, before his rant, seemed at least somewhat courteous. Her response was positive and not necessarily “creeped out.”

But immediately after she confirmed she got home, things got weird. The man shot back a text saying that he was glad she made it home, but he continued.

“You’re the most beautiful woman i’ve ever met, as well as the funniest,” the man wrote back. “I know that sounds excessive but I’m not a liar. The look you get in your eyes when I laugh at your jokes is the prettiest thing I’ve ever seen. You’re so oddly smart that it makes me want to learn everything you know just so you keep talking to me.”

Concerningly, he also pointed out that the TikToker “talked a lot” and that he wanted to “learn” how to listen to her so that she never gets tired of him. Those comments, alongside what he admitted later in his rant, were extreme red flags. But he sent more messages after the initial one.

Commenters swipe to the next slide

While many viewers thought that the man’s initial messages were inundating at best and somewhat lovebomb-y, some commenters didn’t realize that the exchange actually got a lot worse.

After swiping to the second slide, they got more context on why everyone was saying the date was “police report” worthy. That’s because the man directly admitted to slipping “melatonin pills” into her food.

He wrote, “I’m sorry if this makes you uncomfortable, but I’m horrible at keeping secrets from you. A while before our date you did mention your insomnia. I bought melatonin pills and put some into your food while you were in the bathroom.”

“I’m really sorry for doing that without asking,” he added. “It was a selfish thing of me to do.”

The older man justified it by saying that he wanted her to “go home, sleep perfect and then wake up” to tell him how perfect her sleep was. He stated that he knew she liked talking about the “little things” and he wanted to listen “every time.”

People recommend she take immediate action

Most viewers took the post seriously, adding that the TikToker should probably go to the ER or file a police report. While melatonin is generally non-life-threatening when taken, even in excess, it can cause headaches, dizziness, and stomach issues, especially in large doses. Taking too much melatonin can also make it harder to sleep rather than easier. So, if he slipped more than a little bit of melatonin into her food, she would probably have a rough night.

That, alongside the fact that he completely stripped away her agency by giving her pills without her consent, told most viewers that the man was dangerous, not romantic. If he was willing to give her melatonin, there’s a good chance that he may have slipped her something else and “pretended” it was more harmless.

“I’d be going to the ER to confirm cuz like no way that was JUST melatonin,” one commenter said.

“Please go to the hospital to get checked out in case it wasn’t melatonin. You should also file a police report. This is not okay,” another viewer added.

Can this TikToker even file a police report?

In a situation such as this one, going to the ER would be the safest option to make sure that there’s nothing else he may have “hidden” in the food. But, if the man truly just put “melatonin” in the creator’s food and nothing else, would she still be able to file a police report?

The answer technically depends on where the TikToker lives. For the most part, though, she should be able to file one in the United States. Whether the case actually proceeds and pans out into a criminal charge depends on the state.

For instance, many states in the U.S., like California, consider tampering with food or beverages a crime. Multiple states also consider non-consensual drugging, regardless of the lethality of the drug, a crime.

The only caveat is that melatonin is technically considered a dietary supplement—not a drug. Certain states might consider that factor, while others have legal classifications for drugs that could include melatonin.

In the very least, there’s a likely chance she would be able to report the incident for documentation purposes, which could help ensure her safety if the situation escalates. If she wasn’t able to seek criminal charges, she could also seek civil damages.

Regardless, viewers consider the situation incredibly creepy, adding that he definitely was not the love of her life.
