Marjorie Taylor Greene is happy about Venezuela but fears U.S. have to pay the price due to Trump’s actions

A considerable number of Republicans are applauding President Donald Trump for capturing Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and freeing the nation from a dictatorial regime (which is somewhat similar to what the United States has been slowly turning into right now), but Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene has a different opinion. Her perspective isn’t entirely contrary to Trump’s, but it does mark a significant departure from it.

On January 6, 2026, Marjorie Taylor Greene was interviewed on CNN by Kaitlan Collins, where she shared her thoughts on the situation in Venezuela. Greene expressed her satisfaction with Venezuela’s liberation from Maduro, whom she considered mostly evil, but she also expressed confusion about how beneficial Trump’s intervention in Venezuela’s internal matters would be for the American people. She noted that previous regime changes in countries like Iraq, Libya, and Syria have made it clear that there are often fewer positive repercussions for the people living in those places and for Americans, leaving her unsure about her feelings regarding the entire operation. She stated:

“It is concerning to see what’s happening and the direction that the Trump administration is moving in. We can say, thankfully, Maduro has been arrested. We can say we’re happy for the Venezuelan people. But we can also look to all the regime changes before, in Iraq, Libya and Syria. And we said the same things for the people of those countries.”

Emphasising the negative consequences of America’s involvement in foreign conflicts, Greene stated:

“But then we watch those countries fall into turmoil and civil war, and we watch the rise of ISIS and terrorism, and we watch US troops remain in those countries for a very long time, and many flag-draped coffins come home, and that’s what many Americans don’t want to see happen.”

In a separate interview with NBC’s Meet the Press on January 4, 2026, Marjorie Taylor Greene shared similar mixed feelings about Trump’s actions in Venezuela. She expressed a desire for him to prioritise domestic policies instead of engaging in international matters (case in point: Venezuela), which perfectly aligns with the commitments he made to the American public during his 2024 presidential campaign, one that Greene fervently supported back in the day, and continues to do. Taylor Greene feels disappointed by Trump’s lack of action in these domestic matters and hopes to see him working on creating more job opportunities for Americans, promoting affordable housing, and lowering costs for health, car, and home insurance, all crucial for a comfortable life.
