Marjorie Taylor Greene is attempting to shift focus to ‘domestic policies’ amidst Trump’s capture of Venezuelan president Nicolás Maduro

Anyone who has been keeping a close eye on the recent redemption arc of United States Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene would know that a notable aspect of it has been her criticism of Donald Trump.
From the Jeffrey Epstein Files to the increasing prices of goods and real estate, Marjorie Taylor Greene has addressed a wide range of topics while opposing the Trump administration. Importantly, she has criticised the Trump regime’s significant emphasis on foreign relations, contrasting it with their promised focus on domestic issues during the 2024 presidential elections. Greene is once again highlighting the current administration’s hypocrisy in this area, particularly regarding Trump’s recent attention to Venezuela.
For those who may not know, on January 3, 2026, US military forces under Trump’s orders captured Nicolás Maduro, the president of Venezuela, and brought him to the United States on multiple charges, including narcoterrorism. Shortly after this event, many prominent figures shared their opinions on the operation. While most Republicans supported Trump’s actions against Maduro and Venezuela, many, especially Democrats, expressed dissatisfaction with the manner in which they were executed, labelling Trump’s actions as somewhat illegal and potentially harmful to the US, as Venezuela might view them as an adversary due to their intervention. Among the few Republican critics of Trump’s actions was Marjorie Taylor Greene, who, during her appearance on NBC News’ Meet the Press on January 4, 2026, expressed her concerns regarding Trump and the US’s capture of Nicolás Maduro, stating that government involvement in such matters diverts attention from the domestic policies that need addressing at the earliest. Greene stressed her wish for the current administration to prioritise job creation and affordable housing for Americans after “four disastrous years” under the Biden administration. She also pointed out other areas where she believes improvements are necessary and would like the Trump administration to work on, while embodying visible frustration and hopelessness over the current state of affairs. Her exact words in this context were as follows:
I want to see domestic policies that prioritise jobs and affordable housing for Americans after four disastrous years of the Biden administration, and I want to see domestic priorities that — that put Americans first in regards to health care, health insurance costs too much, car insurance, home insurance, and these are issues that matter to Americans. We don’t consider Venezuela our neighbourhood. Our neighbourhood is right here in the 50 United States, not in the southern hemisphere.”
