Texas woman buys viral $130 Marc Jacobs perfume from Macy’s. Then she opens the box: ‘For that much money I spent…’
The Marc Jacobs x Murakami collaboration arrived with a lot of hype. Bright yellow, pink, green, and blue perfume bottles topped with cartoon flowers, a playful nod to Japanese artist Takashi Murakami, and a rollout that also included umbrellas, jewelry, tote bags, heels, and more.
TikTok did what TikTok always does and ran with it, turning the fragrances into a must-have almost overnight.
For one Texas woman, though, the excitement didn’t last long.
TikTok user @meltw_1 shared that she bought the viral pink Marc Jacobs perfume from Macy’s, priced around $130. She documented the purchase, the delivery, and the unboxing in earlier videos, clearly excited to finally have it in hand. But shortly after opening the box, she realized something wasn’t right.
In a follow-up video that has now gotten more than 190,600 views, she explains why she decided to return it.
“I’m taking back my viral Marc Jacobs perfume back to Macy’s,” she says, while filming the perfume box inside its original packaging. “Because one of the [leaves] on there on the bottle fell off.”
In her words, something that pricey should have all its leaves intact, so she’s taking it back.
In the earlier unboxing video, viewers can see that one of the flower petals on the bottle appears loose. In the moment, she doesn’t notice it and focuses instead on how much she likes the scent.
Has this happened to other shoppers?
There aren’t widespread reports yet, but a handful of shoppers have described similar issues with the Marc Jacobs x Murakami bottles.
On Reddit, a user on r/ulta posted a photo of the green and yellow perfumes from the same collection, both missing petals. The person who posted the images wrote that they tried several types of glue to reattach the petals, but nothing worked. In the comments, other users chimed in to say they ran into the same problem.
One commenter shared a photo of two broken petals from the pink perfume and wrote, “Same lmaooooooo.”
Another said they experienced the issue with both the blue and yellow bottles. Someone else added, “Oh boy. Had to do a Reddit search to see if it was just me. I too have broken petals.”

Back on TikTok, commenters on @meltw_1’s video shared their own experiences and reactions.
“Mine too and no umbrella,” one person wrote, referencing the promotional items tied to the collection.
Another said, “Yea one of the petals on my pink one is wobbly like it’s gonna fall off with any kind of pressure. And this is my first impression as I just opened the dang box.”

Some viewers asked for clarification about the damage. “Oh no! A whole flower fell off or just a petal, just wondering what does it look like?” one person asked. In response, the creator posted an update saying, “One of the petal I meant, took it back and they out of stock.”
Others tried to lighten the mood. “If the leafs are falling, that means under watering,” one user joked.
