Las Vegas man goes to iconic Mexican restaurant with a view. Then he spots a couple on their first date —and decides to intervene
Let’s face it, we’ve all had a first date, and they’re absolutely daunting. Our hearts are beating a million miles a minute, as our stomachs are tied in knots, and our palms are drenched in sweat. No amount of time we’ve known the person doesn’t change how nerve-wracking it is.
When a Las Vegas man noticed how apprehensive a stranger was on their dinner date, he stepped in to help in an unexpected way that has the internet in awe.
“I was on a date last night at a very nice Mexican restaurant. It’s a Mexican restaurant with an amazing view,” TikTok creator and real estate agent Drayton Nay (@draytonnay) says, referring to the popular Lindo Michoacan restaurant in Henderson, Nevada. “I was sitting off to the left, where you can see downtown.” Then, he jumps into the story.
Once he and his date sat down, a young couple sat at a table beside them. Immediately, the content creator sensed that it was their first date. “The way he was acting, the questions they were asking each other, and they both worked at the same spot,” Nay says. “They were sitting right next to us. So, we could hear everything that was going on.”
How He Creates A Date For Them To Remember
Subsequently, he decided to approach their shared server to remove a moment on a date we dread. “‘Take my card. I’m paying for their meal,’” he recalls telling the server. “‘Just say, ‘We take care of all our VIPS. You have no bill.’”
After the couple finished their meal, the young man nervously requested the check. Unbeknownst to him, the content creator had it covered. Suddenly, the server delivers the news Nay asked verbatim.
“The waiter turned right around and said, ‘Oh, sir. There is no check. We take care of our VIPS. Have a good night and just walked away,” he recounts. Needless to say, both were confused. “‘The girl goes, ‘You’re a VIP? I thought you had never been here before,’” he recalls the woman saying, followed by the man stuttering. “‘I guess so. So, I guess we can go.’”
However, there was one person who wasn’t fazed: Nay’s date. “My girl across me is looking at me and goes, ‘You did that, didn’t you?’”
Viewers Sang Their Praises
Nay’s story garnered over 199,000 views, tugging the heartstrings of many and virtually applauding him for his act of kindness.
“Kindness is free. That’s an adorable story. You’re so kind,” one viewer commended.
“He’s the VIP and you’re the real MVP,” another complimented.
“That was sooo sweet of you to do, neither one of them will forget that experience on their first date together,” a third stated.
“You did a beautiful thing and help that young man secure a second [date],” a fourth praised.
“Awwww you made me tear up!!! thank you for that…. we need more kindness in this world,” a fifth said.
Is Kindness Dead?
As the years pass by, it seems society has become colder and more detached, with less interaction, smiles, and friendly gestures. And the data proves it’s not in your imagination. A survey from Gallup reported that 11% of people think Americans are very kind, 62% somewhat, 22% not too kind and 5% not kind at all. However, the data for young people isn’t an improvement. Only 49% of people between 30 and 49 and 35% of people 18 to 29 are comfortable with being kind to strangers, compared to 64% of adults aged 65 and older.
While kindness isn’t completely dead, it’s certainly on life support, especially among the younger generation. So, capture every sweet moment and pass it on to others.
