Man Insists on Making Kids Stay in the US for Christmas. He Couldn't Handle Taking Care of Them While His Ex Went to Costa Rica

Sweety Bud (@bellyninja) says she worked for a divorce lawyer and shared a story on TikTok about a couple whose story reminded her of a scene from The Walsh Sisters.

“I don’t want to get swallowed up by motherhood, chewed up by playdates and milestones and food pyramids and balanced meals and sleep schedules and screen time limits,” Claire, played by actress Danielle Galligan, said to her ex in one scene.

“I’d be a terrible mother, but I’d make an amazing weekend dad,” Galligan’s character added. Essentially, she indirectly suggested that she and her ex swap roles. Her ex could dedicate more time to caring for their daughter, while she would only be available as a parent during weekends and holidays. The point is, Galligan’s character deserved just as much of a break, and Sweety Bud was reminded of a client her divorce attorney boss once had.

Divorce, and fighting for child custody

“This situation reminded me of a case so [expletive] up, my boss was this close to telling the guy to go [expletive] himself,” Sweety Bud told TikTok. The man was married to his stay-at-home wife, and they had three children. She claimed that from what she could infer, the woman was “doing a good job” with the kids. Eventually, the kids grew up and no longer needed too much parental supervision. They had extracurriculars and full-time schooling, and the mother began feeling unfulfilled.

Give men custody of their kids ??? I’m being so serious if you’re back-and-forth at the court fighting give him what he wants. I promise you he won’t last a month #narcissist #divorce #fullcustody #zyxcba

“She started investing more into herself, ended up starting her own small business,” Sweety Bud claimed. She said the man assumed that his wife would start focusing on him once the kids got older, but that wasn’t the case. Unlike this woman’s husband, who told his wife to go on a post-partum trip for the sake of soul-searching, Sweety Bud said her boss’ client “threw a temper tantrum.”

Sweety Bud claimed that things escalated for the worse. The situation had become so tense that the husband and wife no longer had each other’s phone numbers saved and only communicated through lawyers. Sweet Bud also said that the children’s school got involved, telling the parents to get it together, or they wouldn’t allow the couple’s children to return. Although the situation eventually de-escalated between the couple, child custody was still an issue.

Parenting isn’t supposed to be convenient

“We’re coming up on Christmas. She requested to take the kids for vacation on Christmas,” she recalled. It was supposedly an overseas trip in Costa Rica. She alleged that the father started freaking out. The man called her boss and asserted that the kids should stay in the country. He believed that Christmas “should be spent with family.”

“Christmas break was about fourteen days. Two weeks. This man fought,” she said. Sweety Bud also claimed the man paid her boss overtime to make the kids stay. Eventually, the mother acquiesced and went ahead with her vacation to Costa Rica as planned. Her ex was apparently uninformed because they had no contact, so she left him with the kids. The man only found out via his eldest child that the mother still went through with her holiday.

Sometime during the break, Sweety Bud said the man called her. He said that his ex needed to get the kids because he was “stressed.” She recalled, “My boss unleashed a fury that I’ve never [expletive] seen before.”

“I need her to come and get them. I’m not mentally capable right now,” the man allegedly said as an excuse. Then, Sweety Bud’s boss allegedly used the man’s logic against him.

“You do realize that when you say that, and she brings that in front of a judge, she can file for full custody, right? Since you’re not ‘mentally capable’ to be a parent right now,” her boss supposedly replied. After the interaction, Sweety Bud said that the father was “dealt with.” The man got exactly what he wanted and came to regret it.
