Fox News Is BIG Mad About a Kristen Stewart Interview

The evolution of Kristen Stewart’s career has been something to behold. After becoming a household name through her work in the Twilight franchise, she has since taken on a wide variety of projects, and even stepped behind the camera on her feature directorial debut, The Chronology of Water.
Comments Stewart made about the film in a recent interview with The Times have quickly gone viral… and have inspired a fair amount of inflammatory reporting from conservative outlets. In the interview, she argued that The Chronology of Water, which she shot in Latvia, “would have been impossible to do in the States.” She also called President Donald Trump’s previous threats to place tariffs on any movies not completely filmed in America “terrifying.”
“Reality is breaking completely under Trump,” Stewart argued. “But we should take a page out of his book and create the reality we want to live in.”
When asked if she will continue to stay in the US, Stewart revealed, “Probably not. I can’t work freely there. But I don’t want to give up completely. I’d like to make movies in Europe and then shove them down the throat of the American people.”
Stewart is far from the first filmmaker to take this stance, with James Cameron most recently sharing a similar sentiment, saying that he has already fully moved away from the United States because “everybody’s at each other’s throats”. But, unsurprisingly, Fox News and other conservative outlets have taken Stewart’s comments and ran with them.
Leave KStew Alone!
It doesn’t help that this is far from the first time that Stewart has been a topic of conversation for Trump. Back in the 2010s, when the Twilight franchise was at its peak and Stewart was romantically linked to her co-star Robert Pattinson, Trump inserted himself in their business a lot. He tweeted about their relationship, and rumors that Stewart had cheated on Pattinson with Snow White and the Huntsman director Rupert Sanders, eleven separate times in the fall of 2012.
“Robert Pattinson should not take back Kristen Stewart,” one of the tweets read. “She cheated on him like a dog & will do it again — just watch. He can do much better!”
It felt weird at the time, but has only gotten even weirder given how the state of things has evolved in the nearly fifteen years since. Stewart even poked fun at the whole ordeal, and the irony of his bizarre fascination given the fact that she’s now proudly queer, during her SNL monologue in 2017.
“He was mad at me a couple years ago, really obsessed with me a couple years ago, which is f—ing crazy,” Stewart told Variety at the time. “At that point, he was just, like, a reality star. I had no reference. It wasn’t like really a thing. But in retrospect, somebody reminded me of that and I was like, ‘Oh my gosh, you’re right!’ He’s probably, like, going to tweet about this.”
Unfortunately, I wouldn’t rule out Trump firing off a new post about Stewart now that these comments are going viral, as asinine as that would be.
