Kellogg’s Recalling 28 Million Boxes of Cereal After Getting Customers Sick

Recommended Videos

Kellogg’s is recalling over 28 million boxes of cereal after some consumers who followed their noses to a waxy odor and flavor reported “nausea and vomiting.” The cereal brands being recalled are Apple Jacks, Corn Pops, Froot Loops and Honey Smacks.

About 20 people had complained that a “waxy” smell emanating from the boxes was making them feel ill and had no place coming out of Kellogg’s cereal boxes; 4 reported the aforementioned. The recall is voluntary on Kellogg’s part.

But not all cereals of these four brands are affected:

According to the AP, Kellogg spokeswoman J. Adaire Putnam said that there is a low risk of any major health problems to do with these waxy boxes. Putnam also said that the problem is a substance in the lining of the boxes, and that Kellogg is taking steps to determine what exactly that substance is and how it got there.

These are boxes that were shipped to stores in late March, so keep that in mind if you are concerned. If you want to ask for your money back, complain, or make cereal puns, or seeking a refund — can contact the Kellogg Consumer Response Center at 888-801-4163 any time between 8a.m. to 8p.m. EDT.

If you’d like to get more specific, here are details you can check to see if Kellogg’s cereal you’ve purchased has been affected:
