John Fetterman blasts new Iranian leader with chilling ‘kill him too’ demand, raising new concerns

Don’t hold back, John.

Senator John Fetterman has called for Israel to “kill him, too” in reference to Mojtaba Khamenei, Iran’s newly appointed supreme leader, raising some serious eyebrows and sparking discussion about his hawkish stance. This demand comes after Mojtaba Khamenei was named to lead Iran on Monday, following the death of his father, Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who was killed in US-Israeli airstrikes.

According to The Hill, Fetterman didn’t hold back during an appearance on NewsNation’s Elizabeth Vargas Tonight. He explicitly stated, “Well, they should kill him, too… hopefully he is significantly wounded. And if he does recover, you know, I do absolutely support having Israel to just eliminate him, you know, along with any other parts of the leadership.”

He continued, making it clear that his support isn’t limited, adding, “I mean, I’m always going to support that. I think it’s a good thing to continue to eliminate leaders of Hezbollah, Hamas and the Iranian, too.” Fetterman was laying out exactly where he stands on dealing with enemy leadership.

Fetterman’s position sets him apart from many of his Democratic colleagues

President Donald Trump had also expressed his dissatisfaction with the new leadership, stating he was “not happy” with Mojtaba Khamenei’s selection as the successor for the Iranian regime. Fetterman has actually been one of the few Democrats to openly praise Trump’s recent strikes on Tehran, known as ‘Operation Epic Fury’. The Pennsylvania senator called these offensive assaults a “success thus far” in breaking and destroying the Iranian nuclear apparatus.

It’s also worth noting that Fetterman notably did not sign onto a letter that urged the Trump administration to address a strike on an Iranian school for girls, which a preliminary investigation suggested the US was likely responsible for. When asked about his limits, he told Vargas that his “red line is boots on the ground,” indicating a willingness to support aggressive actions as long as American troops aren’t directly put in harm’s way on the ground.

He reminded viewers that “every single Democratic presidential candidate always identified that Iran is a top, top security issue.” He highlighted that “every single Democrat in the Senate and in the House, you know, says we can never allow Iran to acquire a nuclear bomb.” He even pointed out that Kamala Harris, when running in 2024, identified Iran as her “top, top international concern.”

“And now someone actually made that virtually impossible after this operation,” Senator Fetterman explained, expressing his confusion. He concluded, “I truly don’t understand why Democrats can’t even acknowledge that this has made the world more safe and more secure, you know, not just all of us, but not just especially the region as well, too.”
