Jimmy Fallon’s attempt to woo the MAGA crowd went about as well as you’d expect

If you remember way back when, before the pandemic warped our sense of time, Jimmy Fallon was under fire for who he had on as a guest on The Tonight Show. Before the 2016 election, he had Donald Trump on his couch, ruffled his hair, and the rest is history.

Now, he’s doing the same thing again but this time with Fox News host Greg Gutfeld. Gutfeld is a man who thinks that he is the definition of an “alpha male,” criticizes the left and liberal minded people relentlessly, and has said some very problematic things in the past. So why then is he a guest on The Tonight Show? The short answer: Ratings.

After the cancelation of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert for no real reason at all, it seems as if the move from NBC with Fallon is to pivot hard into being more politically neutral and I guess that includes having Gutfeld on as a guest. As I stated previously, Gutfeld’s numbers are higher than Fallon’s so really, if anything, Gutfeld is, unfortunately, doing Fallon the favor here.

But even if this was all a move to try and make Fallon’s base a bit more mixed, politically, the actual interview resulted in Gutfeld just yapping for the entire time. No really. I watched this on 2X speed and 90% of this interview is him talking about random things and Fallon trying to slip a question in whenever he gets quiet for a second. So…hope selling out was worth it!

This interview really is just as annoying as you’d think it would be. He talked about how he went and got drunk with Fallon before but Fallon doesn’t remember and one of the bars they went to was a “straight” bar up until 6:00 PM where Gutfeld says it “turned gay” because the bartender took his shirt off. So those are the “iconic” moments you’re missing by not watching this. (To be clear, that’s sarcastic. This man sucks.)

The most frustrating part about this is that it is so clear what the team behind The Tonight Show is doing. They’re pandering to Trump and his base so they’re not the target of his ire and that’s weak.
