‘It is about skin colour’: Man recounts the horrors of being rounded up by ICE agents based on his appearance

It is no secret that the current Trump administration hates minorities. They have repeatedly made it clear in their words and actions.

Since the beginning of his second term this year, United States President Donald Trump has been taking extreme measures to villainise the immigrant population in the country by conducting raids via Immigration and Customs Enforcement and deporting them.

While in some cases the ICE raids are conducted after officials receive a tip or information regarding the existence of “illegal aliens” (as Trump likes to call them) in certain buildings and neighbourhoods, in others these searches are more abrupt. Therefore, if ICE officials deem someone randomly walking down the street as suspicious, they might round them up for questioning. Often, the selection of who could be illegal is based on racial profiling.

Therefore, if you go through social media, you can find several testimonies of black people being questioned by ICE and asked to show their documents, just because of the way they look.

A similar incident has garnered attention recently, where a man of colour working with the United States Postal Service was almost detained by ICE agents. Narrating the horrific encounter, the man recalled being asked by a personnel to put his hands where he could see them, followed by detailed questioning asking him to prove his identity as an American citizen. He also remembered being asked to show his birth certificate, which he did not possess at the time, but was saved from further humiliation after his supervisor confirmed his identity in a background check call.

People on social media who heard the man’s account were quick to call out the current government and its racism. One person wrote:

“It is NOT about documents! It’s IS about our skin color!”

Several others echoed similar sentiments. That said, there were many Republican leaning and MAGA people who thought that the encounter was justified. They noted that the man being questioned was normal and asked him to be thankful for not being deported. How can someone be so out of touch and delusional?
