Is America Great Yet? In a shameless act of cowardice, ICE agents handcuff and sit atop a pregnant woman while pepper-spraying protesters
Under the Trump administration, the United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement has been the most ruthless. Since starting his second term as President this year, Donald Trump has been persistently using the federal law enforcement agency as a tool to target immigrant communities living in the United States. As part of this strategy, the department has been carrying out raids across the country to identify, locate, detain, and deport individuals he likes to call as “illegal aliens.”
If you scour through the internet, especially X (formerly Twitter), every day, you will likely stumble upon at least one video showing an ICE agent treating someone they suspect could be an undocumented immigrant with extreme cruelty. In these videos, individuals are often seen being dragged from their homes, workplaces, or cars, or they are handcuffed and forced to the ground before being taken away in a vehicle, ideally to be deported.
A recent incident has come to light through the circulation of videos on social media platforms. This video features an event near Karmel Mall in Minneapolis, where ICE agents apprehended a woman, handcuffed her to the ground, and sat on her. While this is a common practice for Trump’s self-appointed enforcers, what made this incident particularly alarming was that the woman being restrained was pregnant. As a result, the officer faced intense scrutiny and protests from bystanders who attempted to inform him of her condition, urging him to get off her.
However, as the video highlights, even after learning that the woman was pregnant, the ICE agent did not get up and continued to hold her down by applying pressure to her stomach with his knee. To make matters worse, he even shoved a woman who tried to protest and pepper-sprayed others who opposed their actions. With no other options available, people began throwing snowballs at the agents, but this only made them more aggressive, leading them to drag the pregnant woman away and bring her to a car, likely to take her into custody. While the video does not reveal the woman’s fate, it led to a significant uproar among the crowd, resulting in anti-ICE protests.
This incident is yet another example of the United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement abusing its power during the Donald Trump administration, which has consistently given them the impression that they are untouchable and invincible, allowing them to exercise complete discretion regarding immigrant enforcement actions.
