Teaser for Avengers: Infinity War Trailer Whets Our Appetite for More

"Everything you know ... everything you've experienced ...everything you've imagined ... "

Marvel Studios has put the hype machine into overdrive with a teaser that highlights their last 10 years of superhero movies and promises the world debut of the Avengers: Infinity War trailer tomorrow. Are you hyped? You just might be, after watching this.

The teaser is well-made, since Marvel has a bajillion dollars, and I have to admit that as an MCU devotee I was seized by nostalgia a few times while watching this. The teaser features some of our heroes’ more significant personal struggles—Tony Stark forging the first Iron Man suit, Thor trying to lift his hammer Mjölnir after being told he’s unworthy, Steve Rogers as a slight and sickly “kid from Brooklyn” brawling in an alleyway, to start—and these scenes are intercut with excited reactions from Marvel fans, presumably reaction videos shot about footage in the past. It’s a cute gimmick and it works. A lot of us really are excited to finally get our hands on that trailer.

It’s pretty mind-boggling how locked down Marvel has managed to keep the Infinity War trailer, which was shown for the first time at San Diego Comic Con this summer. Usually, there are inevitable leaks from fans who manage to film the trailers at Cons; in the past, Marvel often released the full deal online after those surreptitiously recorded versions start popping up.

But not so with Infinity War. Every version I saw go up was taken down within seconds, and good luck trying to find it now. After waiting many months, there’s a considerable amount of build-up to the trailer’s official release tomorrow. Directors Joe and Anthony Russo fanned the fires that the trailer was coming this week, posting a picture of the number “3” for three more days on their Instagram on Monday.

The titling that goes along with this little teaser video is appropriately dramatic for a film called “Infinity War” that features nearly every active cinematic MCU hero: “Everything you know … everything you’ve experienced …everything you’ve imagined … it has all been leading to this moment,” we’re promised. That’s a tall order! But you know what? I don’t care that today I’m a willing cog in the publicity machine. I’m as excited as the fans in the reaction videos here. Gimme that trailer.
