‘I would like to’: JB Pritzker warns Trump to pay up or face a lawsuit

Illinois Governor JB Pritzker is saying what almost every Democrat, and honestly, anyone with a working brain, is saying: that Donald Trump should pay up front the money he owes to the people of the United States. In a video that is going viral on social media, especially on X (formerly Twitter), Pritzker can be seen dissing Trump and his tariff policies, noting that they are “illegal” and highlighting that they have been dubbed so by the Supreme Court.
Pritzker isn’t the only person raising this issue, as mentioned before. Among notable individuals speaking about the matter recently is California Governor Gavin Newsom, who was also one of the first people to propose bringing a lawsuit against Trump’s abuse of the International Emergency Economic Powers Act last year.
JB Pritzker wants Donald Trump to return the money he took from Americans
In a recent video, JB Pritzker is asking Donald Trump to pay back the $1,700 he took from American citizens “at the grocery store, at the hardware store, and around the kitchen table” while exercising his stringent tariff policies. Highlighting how the Supreme Court had recently deemed his tariffs “illegal,” Pritzker, in the video, says that Trump must “cut the check” and give people a refund.
According to an article published by CNN on February 21, 2026, Pritzker also wrote a letter to Donald Trump, asking him to pay over $8 billion in damages to the people of the state of Illinois. A section of his letter read, “On behalf of the people of Illinois, I demand a refund of $1,700 for every family in Illinois. There are 5,105,448 households in my state, bringing the total damages you owe to $8,679,261,600.” He added, “This letter and the attached invoice stand as an official notice that compensation is owed to the people of Illinois, and if you do not comply, we will pursue further action.”
Donald Trump has completely lost it over the Supreme Court’s opposition to his tariffs
As expected, Donald Trump started acting like a child when he learned that the Supreme Court was rallying against his exploitative tariff policies. According to an article published by BBC on February 22, 2026, on Friday, Trump stated that he would replace the tariffs that were taken down by the court and would impose a “10 levy on all goods coming into the US.”
However, on Saturday, in a post on Truth Social, he announced that the 10 per cent would be increased to the highest possible level, which is 15 per cent. A part of his post read, “effective immediately, raising the 10% Worldwide Tariff on Countries, many of which have been “ripping” the U.S. off for decades, without retribution (until I came along!), to the fully allowed, and legally tested, 15% level..”
